Horace Helms, utility man, and Mrs. Helms spent one week of
vacation at Myrtle Beach and one week in the mountains of West
ern North Carolina and Newport, Tenn.
Mrs. Bonnie Moses, cloth burler, spent her vacation with Rela
tives in Asheville, N. C.
Mrs. Edna Champion, cloth burler, and her daughter, Ann,
visited friends in South Carolina while on vacation.
Wallace Deanhardt, Cloth Room, had as guests during vacation,
Mr. and Mrs. James Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Crisp of Ander
son, S. C., also Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Gilstrap. They spent a week at
Mr. Deanhardt’s river cabin.
Gordon Wilson, fixer, and Mrs. Wilson visited in Asheville,
N. C., and other points of Western North Carolina.
Ann Robinson of Wilmington, N. C., visited her grandparents,
Mrs. Nell Robinson of the Cloth Department, and George Robinson
of the Carding Department.
Mr. and Mrs. George Robinson and two of his sisters. Miss
Vintie Robinson and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Ledford of Ranlo visited
at Feres Creek in Clay County during vacation. They also motored
to Atlanta, Ga., to visit another sister, Mrs. G. W. Ledford and
family.
Ronald Clark, shearing machine operator, and Mrs. Clark
visited in Asheville, N. C., while on vacation.

Those vacationing recently at Daytona Beach, Fla., included
Carolyn Bonahan and husband Alfred Bonahan; Carolyn Sanders
and husband Carl Sanders, with daughter Katherine; R. L. Tomp
kins and Mrs. Tompkins, and son Tommy. Others spending vacation
time at Daytona Beach were Raymond Mack, with Mrs. Mack and
children Rebecca and Eugene; Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCarter and
nephew Jimmy; Delores Turner and daughter Carla. The Turners
were accompanied by Bill Fritton of Rock Hill, S. C., and Martha
Patterson of Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Miss Doris McCready, Payroll, and her mother, Mrs. J. E. Mc-
Cready, visited Mrs. McCready’s brother in Columbus, Ohio, re
cently.
It was a visit with Mrs. Paul Jackson in Rock Hill, S. C., for
Miss Helen Spencer, Mrs. Helen Craig, Susan Craig, and Mrs.
Marion Craig.
Vacationing at Myrtle Beach, S. C., recently were Beity Holbrook,
accompanied by Ruby Brittain; and Margie Marlin and her hus
band Joe Martin.
A visit with relatives was highlight of a recent trip to Savannah,
Ga., for Mr. and Mrs. Cicero Falls and daughter Hollis.
Bill McSwain accompanied the Gastonia “Rambling Rebs” Drum
and Bugle Corps to Faith, N. C., for the July 4th celebration there;
and to Pageland, S. C., for the annual Watermelon Carnival the
Week of July 10.
James D. Moss, junior at N. C. State College, is working in the
Time Study Department during the summer months.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Van Dvyne of Metuchen, N. J., visited Mrs.
Fred Honeycutt and Mrs. Flora Pence, News Office, for several
'iays in June.
Mrs. Flora Pence and Mrs. Betty Featherstone spent several days
during vacation at Carolina and Kure Beaches, N. C.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Cooper and daughter, Sandra, toured the New
England states during vacation.

In late June, Miss Betty Ann McAbee, daughter of L. B. Mc-
■^bee. Assistant to the Industrial Relation Director, attended the
^oung People’s Conference of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian
Church, Bonclarken, the church assembly at Flat Rock, N. C.
Miss Nancy Goble, sister of Mrs. L. B. McAbee, underwent an
appendectomy at Gaston Memorial Hospital recently.
Summertime in the Carolinas puts to
work the imagination for something to drink
that’s tall and cool. And likely as not, it’s
some fruity thirst quencher that does the job
best. Mrs. L. E. Stiles of Ply Respooling,
lays aside her favorite culinary pursuit—pie
making—to offer the following cooler varia
tions for a sure-fire August treat.
GINGER LIME RICKEY
1 quart ginger ale 1% cups lime juice
lime wedges V2 cup sugar
Combine lime juice and sugar; shake or stir
well with ice until very cold and frosty. Add
ginger ale; mix well. Put in lime wedges. Serves
six.
LIME SPARKLE
1 quart sparkling water IV2 cups lime juice
lime wedges V2 cup sugar
Combine lime juice and sugar; shake or stir
well with ice until very cold and frosty. Add
sparkling water; mix well. Add lime wedges.
Serves six.
PINEAPPLE PUNCH
% cups lemon juice 3 cups sugar
3 pints sparkling water 3 cups water
1 quart pineapple 1 large can pineapple
sherbet juice
Boil sugar and water five minutes; cool. Add
Mrs. Stiles is much at home in her kitchen, as
well as on her job in Ply Respooling.
DREAM SODA
1 9-ounce can crushed 1 12-ounce package
quick-frozen straw
berries
pineapple
1/4 cup heavy cream
pale dry ginger ale
Combine strawberries and pineapple. Put
through food mill or sieve. Add cream. Mix
thoroughly. Divide among six tall glasses. Fill
glasses with ice-cold dry ginger ale. Stir gently.
PINEAPPLE SHERBET
1 can (13 ounces) evapo- V2 cup sugar
rated milk dash of salt
2 tablespoons lemon lean (1% pounds)
juice crushed pineapple
Chill evaporated milk until icy cold. Beat with
a rotary beater until frothy. Put in lemon juice
and beat until mixture is stiff and holds a peak.
Gradually add sugar and salt. Fold in pineapple
with the syrup. Spoon into freezer tray. Freeze
until firm. Makes about two quarts.

and Mrs. Obrien in Norfolk, Va., and Mr. and Mrs. Parrish in Mary
land.
Mrs. Jerry Strickland and family visited in Ridgecrest and at
Myrtle Beach, S. C., during their vacation.
Mrs. Geneva Ballenger and family spent their vacation in the
state of Washington.
Sam Honeycutt, Mrs. Honeycutt, their three children, and Mrs.
D. P. Clark spent a week of vacation at Carolina Beach and Kure
Beach, N. C.,
Mr. and Mrs. Luther Foy and Mrs. Marshall visited Harold
Marshall and his family in Rockingham, N. C,
Thurman Clark and Mrs. Clark spent their vacation at Kure
Beach, N. C.
Mrs. Pearl Aldridge who has been very sick for a while, is
now getting along well.
Alvin Dill, Sanitary Foreman, and Mrs. Dill vacationed in New
York City and Washington, D. C., the week of June 18. While there,
they attended several television shows and visited many places
of interest.
Mrs. Rosie Francum, tool room clerk, and her daughter Jane,
spent their vacation in Washington, D. C., visiting Misses Peggy
Francum, Barbara Huggins and Joyce Cain who are roommates.
While in Washington Jane celebrated her 14th birthday and was
entertained with a surprise party.
Scott McCarter, electrician, and his family visited Mr. and Mrs.
Vergil Hastings in Quincey, 111., during their vacation.
George Foy, carpenter, Mrs. Foy, and also Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Boyd and their son spent their vacation at Roanoke Island, N. C.
Miss Phoebe Pearson, Shop Office, had as recent guests her
sister, Mrs. Helen Ledford and son Bruce of Washington, D. C.
Assistant Plant Engineer H. A. Cauthen and Mrs. Cauthen
visited relatives in Roanoke, Va., during their vacation. They also
spent a week at Carolina Beach, N. C.
Lathe Operator Samuel Leonhardt and Mrs. Leonhardt enjoyed

To Live In Ohio
After August 15, Mr. and Mrs.
William Randolph Falls will be
at home on South Fourth street,
Ironton, Ohio, following their
exchange of marriage vows in
Adams Memorial Presbyterian
Church, Gastonia, Sunday, July
29. She is the former Miss Allie
Beatrice Bradshaw, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Bradshaw.
For the past three years she has
been typist in the Time Study
Department here.
Mrs. Falls attended Gastonia
schools and was graduated from
Gastonia High School. Late last
year she was selected “Miss Op
timist of 1955,” of the' Gastonia
Optimist Club.
Mr. Falls is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. William Falls of Ironton.
He is a graduate of Rio Grande
College and attended Marshall
College, He teaches in Ironton
High School.
For a wedding trip, the Falls
visited North and South Caro
lina beaches and traveled up the
Eastern coast to Philadelphia.

announce the marriage of their
daughter, Joann, to Allen Blake
on May 29. Mr. and Mrs. Blake
are making their home with the
