The 10th annual Labor Day Fun Fair
program was expanded this year to ac
commodate the increased participation
of employees and members of their fam
ilies. An overflow attendance of children
and grownups took part in the fun-
fest program which began at 9 a.m., and
concluded with a square dance for adults
in the evening. Numerous awards and
prizes were handed out to members of
age groups from two years upward, for
outstanding participation in the various
games, contests and entertainment fea
tures.

corded some representative scenes of the
day-long holiday event, staged by the
Recreation Department.
TOP ROW: Two-year-old Ed Atkinson,
Jr., took a low-down view of proceedings
at the Firestone Ball Park, scene of the
Labor Day games and contests. His Dad
was in the background. Jane Rice and
Lloyd Beaver came out victorious in the
water-pouring competition. Object was
to pour as much water as possible into
the bottle within a specified time limit.
Jane filled the bottle several times. A
baseball glove was prize for Johnnie
Nichols, one of several lucky-number
winners. Top two winners in the bicycle
race for girls were Melva Jones (left),
and Vickie Ann Sudduth.

In the under-six-year age group were,

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Towery an
nounce the birth of a son, born
September 4, at Garrison Gen
eral Hospital. Mr. Towery is em
ployed as intermediate tender in
the Carding Department.
Henry Aaron Moore was a
mid-summer arrival at Divine
Saviour Hospital, York, S. C. He
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tracy
Moore. The father is employed
in the Opening Room.
Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Atkinson,
Davis Park Road, are parents of
a daughter, born at Gaston Me
morial Hospital on August 7.
Mrs. Atkinson is an employee of
the Winding Department.
Mrs. Evelyn Parham, SYC
Weaving, is the grandmother of
Deborah Jean Maddox, born re
cently to Mr. and Mrs. Bobby
Maddox.
Mr. and Mrs. Dallas W. Allen
of Plant City, Fla., have a new
son born on September 2. Mr.
Allen is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Hiram H. Allen.
PTC and Mrs. Garvin Franklin
announce the birth of a daugh
ter, Patricia Ann, August 31 at
the U. S. Army Hospital, Fort
Benning, Ga. Mrs. Franklin is
the former Joyce Ruff, daughter
of Mrs. Ella Ruff, change hand.
Clifford Earl Robinson was
born August 31, to Mr. and Mrs.
Zeb Robinson. The father is em
ployed in Spooling.
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Chavis
are parents of a girl, born at
Garrison General Hospital, Sep
tember 3. The father is an elec
trician in the Shop.
The first child born to Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Dill, August 24, has
been named Debra Sue. Her
grandfather, Alvin Dill, is sani
tation foreman at Firestone.
A son born to Mr. and Mrs-
W. B. Smith on September 4, has
been named Kenneth Bennett
Williams. The father is in Sales
Yarn Twisting.
Debora Jane Turner was born
to Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Turner^
Jr., September 15. The father, a
former employee here, is a son

Mrs. Henry Chastain, secre
tary of the Variety Garden Club
at the plant, is shown in her
backyard garden at 214 South
Liberty street. She exhibits a
specimen of amaranth, similar
to her entry which brought a
blue ribbon in the "Harvest Har
mony" flower show at the
Spindle Center Agricultural Fair
in Mid-September. Mrs. Chas
tain also won a blue ribbon for
an exhibit of pompon zinnias.
