o
N the most recent stop of the Red Cross
bloodmobile at Firestone, no less than 200 donors
showed up to contribute 175 pints in one of the
most successful turnouts in Gastonia during the
past several years.
The 176 pints collected here represent 50 be
yond the regular quota. Red Cross workers were
pleased with the generous response, which saw
the Civil Defense quota reached for the first
time.
Of those who came to volunteer their blood,
162 were Firestone employees. And of this num
ber, 1 became a 2-gallon donor, 16 reached the
1-gallon to 1-gallon and 7 pints mark, while 34
were first-time donors.
Two general employee categories — the me
chanical department and office and supervisory
personnel—qualified for blood credit cards under
the Group Donor Plan. Each of these depart
ments furnished blood to the amount of 20 per
cent of its personnel.
Time Study—with three members—had 100
per cent participation, with each person reach
ing or passing the gallon mark.
On the bloodmobile visit here, L. B. McAbee
assistant director of Industrial Relations, was re
cruitment chairman. He was assisted by Safety
Director Alvin Riley.
Mrs. Carl Stowe, plant hostess, was chairman
of volunteer workers. Other volunteers included
