APRIL WALKS THE FIELDS AGAIN
April came walking with all its goodly train. Valleys be
gan turning into green, replacing earth’s cloak of brown. In
the Gastonia area, tiny thrusting lances of crocus were
earliest harbingers of the Season of Hope and Promise. Not
far behind came forsythia and golden daffodils—like these,
plucked to brighten the inside on a day when rain came
down to cleanse the ancient earth after a long, hard winter.
To Rickey Chastain and Janice Spencer, Spring is a many-
splendored thing. Here, the youngsters are fascinated by the
life of a newly-hatched chick, symbolic of the mystery and
beauty of Nature’s Awakening Season. Rickey is the grand
son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Chastain, both of Carding.
Janice’s father, Frank Spencer, works in Synthetic Weaving.
