AMERICA IN RUSSIA—An arlist's drawing of ihe struciure in Moscow's Sokolniki Park, housing
sculptures and other displays of a cultural nature at the American National Exhibition.
Company Sharing In Summer Moscow Exhibit
The Firestone company is
among a number of firms
underwriting costs of the all
plastic “culture pavilion”
which houses displays of
modern American architec
ture, sculpture and photo
graphic art at the American
Exhibition in Moscow this
summer.
Main idea of the six-week ex
hibition which opened July 25
is to show the Soviet man-on-
the-street how his American
counterpart lives, works, learns,
produces, consumes and plays.
The 15,000-square-foot pavil
ion without outer walls has 70
interlocked natural (off-white)
plastic sections. Each section re
sembles an inverted, six-section
umbrella and is supported by a
20-foot plastic column. The col
umns, hollow to allow rainwater
drainage, are anchored in con
crete slabs.
THE PAVILION was built by
Lunn Laminators Inc., of Hunt
ington, Long Island. It was ship
ped to Moscow in sections, along
with two other exhibit buildings.
In this structure, American
culture, scientific and techno
logical developments are being
presented in the Soviet Union
for the first time. The official
U.S. government exhibition is
placed in a gold-anodized alumi
num geodesic dome, and a pavil
ion of glass, steel and aluminum.

Garden Club Plans
Fall Flower Show
October 16 and 17 are dates
for the standard flower show,
scheduled at the Plant Recrea
tion Center.
The early-autumn horticulture
show will be sponsored by the
plant, and staged by Firestone
Variety Garden Club.
Mrs. Wyatt Keever, Variety
Club president, has announced
that the show will have approv
al of the North Carolina Feder
ation of Garden Clubs.
“We hope that many employ
ees and others in the plant com
munity will contribute to the
exhibits,” Mrs. Keever said. She
pointed out that August is a
good time to begin planning for
the show. In the case of any
potted plant, it is required that
a person will have had the ex
hibit in his possession at least
three months prior to the show
in mid-October.
I have six honest serving men,
who taught me all I know. Their
names are What and Why and
When and How and Where and
Who.

Bloodmobile Coming Aug. 19
Wednesday, August 19.
This is the date when Fire
stone employees will have
opportunity to make a price
less gift in the interest of
human concern and com-
muni'^y service. On this, the
second visit of the American
Red Cross bloodmobile to the
plant this year, plant offici
als hope for a contribution
exceeding that of the collec
tion on February 25.
On that visit, a total of 180
pints of blood was contribut
ed.
Group Donor Program
On the last collection here, the
Mechanical department, and Of
ficers and Supervisors qualified
under the group blood-donor
credit card plan. These two de
partments had also qualified the
previous six-month period.
Under the group plan, an en
tire plant or business having
1,000 or more employees can
qualify for a six-month period,
when at least 15 per cent of its
employees make blood contribu
tions.
Also, single departments can
qualify, each donating at least
25 pints, or 20 per cent for total
employees—whichever is larger
—within a period covered by a
six-month agreement.
For the past year, the Me
chanical department and Of
ficers and Supervision have
qualified on the 20 per cent
basis.

SUNRISE ON LAKE JAMES
Morning sunlight glistens across Lake James and filters
through the trees at Camp Firestone, company-operated
Nature-trail retreat in Western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge
Mountains. This photograph shows the boathouse and one of
the piers on a cove of the lake which affords 6,000 acres
for boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing.
During this—the 24th—season at Camp Firestone, em
ployees and members of their families may enjoy the “away-
from-it-all” type of recreation through mid-October. The
camp is near Nebo and Bridgewater, and nine miles from
Marion, principal town in McDowell county.
