NEWSLETTER VOLUME 2, NUMBER 6 GASTONIA, NORTH CAROLINA JANUARY, 1989 PLMTT MMGER'S HESSAGE By: J. Anand Stop and spend a few moments in the plant lobby to see how the plant is perforniing. On the "Feedback Board" you will see the plant performance in the areas of Safety, Quality, Production, Productivity, and Housekeeping. Look over these numbers and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask your supervisors, department managers or other staff personnel. I think that most people need and want to know how the plant is doing on a regular basis - considering that our livelihood is tied to this plant. By March 15, you will see similar boards in your own departments as well, showing the performance of your department. If you feel that additional information should be provided on these boards, let us know. I was glad to see the interest in the Firestone Fishing Club. Notices for soliciting your interest for other activities will be going up soon and I hope that participation will be as good as in the fishing club. It appears that Gastonia will have to compensate the tire plants for the scrap. The bright side to this situation is how Gastonia has responded. When the improvements to the existing equipment have been completed, Gastonia's product will be much improved. Everyone should be reminded that the pressure that the tire plants are exerting on Gastonia is not because our quality has deteriorated, but because the automobile manufacturers requirements continue to increase. The month was a difficult one, but alot of progress has been made toward reducing the number of short rolls and reweaves. Overall, with respect to customer complaints, January was a good month. THE FIRESKME FISHDIS CLUB Fellow employees. Firestone has started a fishing club as of January 29, 1989. It requires a $5.00 entry fee. You will receive the official Firestone hat, membership card and a set of instructions. There will be monthly prizes with a banquet at the end of this year to honor our fisherman of the Year. We are pleased to announce that we have over 50 paid members and some of these anxious fishermen have already weighed in some tremendous catches. Our charter members, those who join before February 28, can already turn in official weighed fish and get into the point standings. After February 28th, there will be a two week waiting period for new members. So, we encourage everyone to go ahead and get in on the fun. A list of certified weigh in stations will be posted on the "New Fishing Boards" that will be installed real soon. If you are going out of town, stop by Mike Roland's office and get an official weigh in card to take with you. We are really excited about our new club and additional Information will be forthcoming as the club grows. But, to take advantage of all the benefits now or to leam more about the club, see Hike Roland (Industrial Engineering), Richard HdHllian (Twisting) or Bartj Duckworth (Accounting). Fishing reports will be issued on where the fish are biting and what lakes are hot and what lures are best. There is even talk of some fishing tournaments that should prove very interesting. So, don't wait, get your membership in now because I can tell you from experience that the fish are biting and who knows, you might just catch that lunker that may win you some very special prizes.
