FIBERS AND TEXTILES COMPANY GASTONIA PLANT JUNE/JULY. 1989 VOL. 3. NO. 1 PLAHT MAKAGBR*S MESSAGE By: J. Anand I hope everyone had a pleasant and safe vacation. For those who had to work during the shutdown, our sincerest appreciation. As you all know there are some jobs that Ccin only be done when the plant is shut down £ind take more them a day or two to finish. Although everyone did a super job on the projects during the shutdown, three groups of people deserve special mention: the Maintenance Group working on the #8 oven wall, the Treating Group working on the #3 flooring and the Janitorial Crew after the second floor painting. On June 1st the Compciny announced that our division (Gastonia, Hopewell and Woodstock) is no longer part of the Tire Group but now moved to the Diversified Group. The person in charge of this group is Mr. Ben Ammons. On July 10th, Mr. Ammons, Mr. Hirai and Mr. Johnson visited our plaint for a brief orientation trip. The visit went very well. Mr. Ammons will be visiting us on a regular basis aund tentatively the next visit is scheduled in August. CUSTOMER OOmENTS By: Jeff Heavner You would expect the Sales Department to be pretty excited about the five new Domier looms being put into place in the West End of the 1st floor. [If you haven't noticed, go teike a look — the sight itself is exciting!] Five new looms doubles our capacity for producing square-woven or industrial fabrics. Think of it! Twice as many looms, twice as much capacity, twice as mainy yards, twice as mciny dollars in sales, twice the opportunity to show off Firestone to the marketplace eind twice the fun of producing some neat fabrics. Of course a lot of fabric will have to be treated so there will be an increase on the tenter unit. It is all pretty exciting but it's all sold out already! How can the sales people get excited about having nothing left to sell? Well, we are excited because we're already looking beyond these five looms. Why not find enough sales to fill up five more new looms — or more? That's the plein and any help you can give will be appreciated. We are especially looking for ideas for fabrics or end products that could be made from the new colored polyester yarns that our Hopewell plant produces. If you have ctny thoughts mention them to your supervisor or to LARRY SHUTE. We'll check them out. Why settle for plain old white fabric when maybe we can sell some red or blue or orange fabrics. The West End would really be exciting then! SERVICE AWARDS - JUNE/JULY Department Years : KATIE H. PEELER I.E. 40 DAVE N. LEWIS Technical 30 MARTY I. YONAS Administrative 25 ALMA E.
