PLAHI MANAGER'S MESSAGE
By: J. Aneind
Mr. JOHN SPERR has been named to replace MART5f
YONAS at the Division President. Mr. Sperr has
extensive experience with Firestone in the Tire
company cuid the Diversified Products divisions.
On January Uth, ROWE HENDERSON joined us as
Production Mcinager. We are delighted to have him
back. His presence will help us refocus on
improvements needed in our factory.
From December 6 to December 22, 1989, three
employees, Mr. MURAYABASHI, Mr. NOGAMI and Mr.
OKAKURA, from our sister plant, Hikone, visited
Gastonia. They worked with our Twisting personnel
to prepare three model twisters. As a result
of this work, a work plam was developed for waste
reduction in Twisting. Twisting management will be
issuing monthly updates on their progress.
Due to the cutback in automobile production the
requirements for tire cord are lower thcin
2inticipated. One way to overcome this deficit is
to increase our productivity etnd reduce our waste
and rework. We will keep you posted on the future
requirements.

COSIOKER OOWffiHTS
By: Jeff Heavner
Akron has decided to allow splices in the monoply
tire fabric. This means our short rolls can be
spliced into longer roll lengths and shipped.
Venezuela is reporting that our efforts in
Weaving to prevent tight edges has reduced their
scrap from .9% to .3% of material calendered.
GREAT JOB!
Reeves has agreed to give Gastonia all their 6687
business and we are negotiating for other styles.
Potential business for the West End is so good
that two additional looms have been ordered.
