PLAHT MANAGER'S MESSAGE
By: J. Anand
Congratulations to everyone for the outstanding
performcince in productivity - a new record. The
meal served by the managers was a small token of
our appreciation for everyone's efforts. When we
look back to about two years ago no one could have
believed that this level of productivity was
possible. Teamwork is the key behind
accomplishments of this type. We have to keep
setting even higher goals cind achieving them. That
is the mark of winners and you are all winners.
Performance for the past two months in the area of
waste reduction cuid safety incidents has been
encouraging as well. I would like to specifically
thamk the key safety employees for their hard work
and dedication to the cause of being safe. With
the holidays approaching, please be extra careful
to keep your mind on the job so that no one is
hurt.
Thanks to our Fcimily Day organizers. The event
was a resounding success - a super job done as
usual.
With the new year approaching I will be
communicating our new goals cind objectives to all
of you in our next employee meetings scheduled for
the third week of December.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.

TOC TEAM OOMPEIKS IN AKROS EVENT
Partnership '90, the inaugural compamy-wide
employee involvement presentations, were held on
October lOth & 11th at Bridgestone/Firestone
headquarters in Akron, Ohio. Each BFS plant was
invited to send teams to make quality and
productivity improvement presentations.
Twenty-two teams participated from throughout the
United States and Ccinada during this event.
MIXED YARN ELIMINATORS represented Gastonia.
Team members selected to attend were JIMMY ADAMS,
JEANETTE BUNTON, HAROLD GREEN, TOM HAYES, LAWRENCE
HUMPHRIES and MARILYN M_*JiTIN. In order to compete
in Akron, the MIXED YARN ELIMINATORS had to first
win locally by competing with five other te£ims
within Firestone Gastonia.
MR. ANAND, who also attended this event, stated
that the team did an excellent job and represented
Firestone Fibers & Textiles very well. While in
Akron the group had the opportunity to tour
Firestone Corporate Headquarters and a
reception/dinner in their honor hosted by the
Firestone Diversified Productions Division.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS
By: Jeff Heavner
With respect to chargebacks, we have established
a list of priorities. Using both current and past
data we will establish an objective for
chargebacks. Gastonia has done this in the past
witli Des Moines and Venezuela. The result was a
greatly reduced amount of chargebacks for tight
edges. The most recent accomplishment was
Gastonia convincing Akron to reduce the dip
pick-up level on tlie specification. We have saved
the most challenging for last—baggy fabric.
I had the opportunity to meet with the No. 8
Treating Unit to discuss some concerns of the
Oklahoma City tire plant. In an effort to improve
our responses to all our customers, we will be
reviewing trip reports with the departments who
can best address their requests.
Our Reeves business has improved. Sales samples
made on the West End, and sent to potential
customers, are generating requests. We have
completed a second trial at Aeroquip and have one
more to go. We are producing a sample for Amfuel
which could result in more business for the West
End.
A Sales/Technical meeting was held in Gastonia.
Potential business for the West End is exciting.
