GRINDWG OUT PRODUCTION- By Charles Forney, Jr. Through the combined efforts of the manufMcturing and sales department, \io have in creased the mount of Defense or Vfcr V/ork in the plant. Our production a fov; months back was not a largo porccntag’o of defense work, but xic have been able to securc a large number of orders, both dircct and indirect, with the various brrjichcs of the government. To keep the plant running full time schedule ajid continue to £rind out a large production, we have had to make some changes. A large number of new craplo5'‘cos have been added to the third shift and a few on the first and second shifts. V/e hope to increase further, even the amount of our production that is going into the Defense Program, and for that rc;i.son, are trying to increase our production, To do so, has caused us to start training a number of new employees. We have had to start operating a bus to bring employees into the plant, due to the scarcity of automobile tires and gasoline. This bus operates up in the Casar section and brings about 30 to AO employees to the plant on both second and third shifts. V/ilbur Boyles, who has always been one of our faithful truck drivers at this place, until a few years ago when his health failed him, has joined us again and is taking over the responsibility of operating this bus. Since some of you left here, we have nvade some improvements around in the plant. The Spinning and T^vister rooms have been complc;tely repainted and new lighting added, 'fe have now started on the Winding and Packing rooms and have half of the Winding room with new lights and have finished the painting in the lov/er half. The departments are being run by the same men that ran them when j?-ou viere here. There has been no changes in that rcspcct, but mo have lost quite a few men to the armed forces. There arc a nuraber of departments in the plant that are running on Sundays during periods in which we have orders for the Defense Program. Further information with reference to the chaiiges that have been made in the plfint will be given you along in each issue of this publication, ^/e will try to go into more detail in future publications.
