So, just for pastime rJid child hood’s sake, lets go back and rominisce - a little. Do you reneniber? ~ The little girl v;ho sat in front of you at school and you trapped her pigtails in your iiik well - or the little girl who pretended she v;as using snuff by ’’dipping’* cocoa - the little boys who felt so very, very mature puffing av:ay on rabbit tobacco or an elder stick - the "stick horses” that’s been many a little fellov/‘s pride and joy? I remember a fancy one I had that I called ’’Bob," ^member the old see—sav; over the triangle chicken coop that Ippt the- ground nearby bruised and v/eedlecs - of v/riting your sweetheart’s name in the palm of your hand, forgetting about it and your big brother or sister seeing it rnd teasing you ~ or peeping through the, key hole rJid watching big sister court ~ you never did see an;jiihing of much interest, but that old key hole V7as a regular magnet and you lived in hope rnd expectation - the old tin tub, that served on Saturday night for c3.ean Sunday rituals ~ or the preacher that said, near the end of his sermoxi "and no\/ in conclusion" and then concluded for for nearly an, h^v.T ~ a.t v03?r.od ycii'd t)'-:v£r get heme to that fiied chicken and chocolate opice ■■ the coupla* old men in the '•'i\iuen Corner" who settled dovm for a nice nod ?nd snore — or the nice olvx I'-.dies who chev/ed on cloves to cover up snuff halitosis - of pulling off your shoes and tramping dov;n the newly filled strew bed ticks - the old surrey vdti fr:Ijige around the tr.p ~ you really felt in fine style riding in one cf those - of ai3. the toe nails that got busted each summer — that first cud of tobacco that almost saved you from being in the army - That squerk:y pair of shoes that caused peop?ue to turn rnd notice - that goose egg jrou got on History for saying Booker T, IVashington, vjas the fqther of his country - that "why were you ever born" stare your mother gave you for snickering when the preacher "asked the blessing" ~ Pulling up Mother’s pan of tomato plmts, then feeling uneasy and resetting them.
