rATrlER Of TrJ£ MOMTH Dear Boys:- I have been asked to be the Father of the Month, and m glad to have this opportunity of tell ing the boys from our town the , nov/s I have been able to gather, T/e are all r/orking hard these days, trying to help in every v;ay to do our part in • \7inning this -v/ar, and to shot? the boys (our boys) that we are right behind them all the time. Suppose you boys are doing like Charlie, and sending your Mother a V/ar Bond, as the boys in the service seem to be as anxious not only to fig^it but to help pay for the v;ar by buying bonds out of their pay each month, and sending them home to the folks for safe-keeping. We think of all of you all the time, tmd miss you very, very much. It is rlways a delict to all of us to hear from you, and vre always tell each other what ve have heard from our boy or boys, so that we know hor; all of you are doing, and our prayers go out to j’-ou daily. Victory gardens are the thing here these days, and they are beginning to show up noxv that we are having some v.'ana weather, so ypu see every one is trying to do their part in the war, even though some can do very little, and you boys will have to do most of it. We older men would love to be able to be vath you to help you, but this war is one for young men, so you vdll have to do the fitting. I was mighty glad to get a letter from Thurman Laughlin from North Africa, and he was well rnd happy,' Our boys really did a good job in North Africa, and v;e are all very proud of them, but we knev7 they ;vould give a good account of'themselves, as they have always been able to do that when called on by their town, state or country. You boys have one thing about v;hich you do not have to worry cJfid about v/hich we are having'a hard time, and thctis the point, system, jtwould take a lawyer to • figure it out, and there are none in'the store, but we do the best we can; however, it takes lots of e^qjlaining at times, rnd'some popple never do iinderstcnd the thing, but wo try to be patient with tliem, and get by in fairly good shape. Meat is scarcc riid Morris Bovman has less hair on his head thru ho did when yoa left trying to scratch up enough for every one, 17e get steak about once a week, but can find chickens and fish, so wo do not go hungry, but you never hear any one como in and call for five pounds of steak or three pounds of sausage. They have found out they caii do on one pound, V/o are gc,tting better acquainted vdth each other these days as we do not get riiy gas, so have to stay at homo and tall: to our nei^bors, and wo find we like it,'It certainly mrJces people live'different lives from v'hat they did before the r/ar, but all arc cheerful about it, as all of us wish to- do everything in our power to'get you boys back homo just as soon as possible, and, if it takes gasoline to do it, then you can have ours. Talce care of yourselves. We are thinking of you and praying for you. Charlie V/easc.
