HOME ON FUHLOUGH Pfc. Durham Grigg of Hendrix Field, Sebring, Fla., recently spent a ten-day furlough here, with his mother, LIrs. Minta Grigg, and otner members of his family. Durhaiii spent his time between here and Blacksburg, S.C., where his ' wife's fcmily live - Said he sho’ was having one big time eating watermelons, fried chicken n*stuff. He dropped by to see us, personally, and we were! mighty glad to chat with him for awhile. Pvt, Eddie V/ease, who is stationed at Fort Jackson, S,C.,spent the week-end with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. King Woase, Eddie is a lucky soldier, being so near home n’everything. Sgt, Thurman Laughlin has returned to the Government Hospital at Staunton, Va., after spending a ten-day furlough ivith his parents, Mr. and Mrs. "Doodle" Laugh lin and family, Thurman had an accident in North Africa one night and received a badly broken arm. It wouldn't seem to heal in the African climate like it should, so he was sent back to the States, He, looked a little'thin, but still s-o-o hand some - We know.he caused many a gals heart to flutter, hereabouts. Broadus Beam of the Na-'/y, stationed at Bainbridge, IM., spent a ten-day furlough with his wife, Mrs, Beam. He has just completed his boot-training and was fit-as- a-fiddle and rrrin' to go; Pete Grigg, Itfs, Beam's brother, has also been spend ing sometime with her. He, too, is in the Navy and stationed at Bainbridge, Md, Cpl. Tommie R. Gladden has just completed the course for air-craft mechanic at Willow Ron Air Base, Ypsilanti, Mich, and rated a nice furlough with his attract ive wife, the former Miss Nettie Lee Hoyle. He has now been assigned to the Air Base at Salt Lake City, Utah. Cpl. Gladden stopped by to talk a few minutes and we were very glad to sec him. Pvt. Charles Cloninger, M,P. at Fort McClellan, Ala., has been spending several days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cloninger. Remember the nice letter "Mossy" wrote for the "Hoover Ri-vj.l" ‘sometArao ago — We vjish he'd write again soon, Pfc. Ward Lowe has returned to Camp Lee, Va., after spending a ten-day furlough v.’ith relof'ivCTs, Vfri’^d se^'no'l to c njoy the checkof g'cin.ns,, tbnt go on endlesslv, on the "Hoover Rail," as we noticea liim several times, vmtchiiig very interestedly, Lieut. Cai’tvtt’ight Hai't, of Miami^ Fla,,is spending a ten-day furlough with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Geo. H, Hart, and other relatives in York, S,C. Of course, we aier’t sure that they are all relatives that "Cotty" visits in York - One of them might bo "step-or-two" removed from that category - but, then maybe she'll be a roj.citive st>meday,' who knows. Staff Sgt, Shuford Ramsaur of Fort Jackson, S.C., recently spent several days with his wife, the former Miss Doris Blanton, and also his parents, Jir. and Mrs; M.S. Ramsaur. Know Shuf.., Jr. is glad that he is not as far away as Puerto Rico, at the present time. Pvt. David James, who is stationed at Camp Stewart, Ga.,spent last week-end with his wife and little daughter, Diane, "Little Miss James" is a darling, and we know her Daddy is thrilled to got home every so often to see her.
