•Jt is with a great deal of pleasure, we bring, ycu a fine letter this month from our former Governor and our future Senator - Honorable Clyde R. Hoey - He is a fojniliar figure to all of you . boys-’from Lawndale. His record as out’ Governor, a few years ago, won for him the respect and admiration of all,and we are- • / ' . looking forward to his career as our Senator from North Carolina, ■ . , replacing Senator Bob Rejmolds, My dc£T MrSi Osborne; T £jn much grtitified to receive j-^our October issue of "HOT OFF THE HOOVER RAIL," which X have road with a great deal of interest and high appreciation. 'Tam so gla.d you gave me the real explanation of the unique title, which your splendid publication bears, and I am sure that all thd Lawndale boys, wherever located, are not only glad to get this publication but enter very fuHy into its fine spirit with complete understanding, Tlic October issue has at least three out-standing features, and I am sure the boys in service vi;ill enjoy all three of them, as well as the other interesting matter in the paper. Tlie first one is the very fine salute to Schenck Carpenter, who has been'with the company U9 years. Of course they vjill remember him as Mr. J. D. S. Carpenter, but all of his long associates and those who have respected and ac’jnired, him through the ■years prefer to,call him Schenck, Of course*the tribute to him is richly deserved. The next thing of unusual interest is the action of the Cleveland Mill and Power Company in providing addition?! insurance for their employees vjith the Travelers In surance Company, without requiring additional pay by the employees and v;ith the-add- itionc.l provisions applying whether the employee is on oi- off the job. This is a iiaost commendable act cjid one for vtfhich I ara sure the employees at home and in service will join you in bestowing orchids upon this fine organization. The third very important item is the' recording of the honor paid Mr, John F, Schenck, Sr., by the Shelby Rotary Club on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Cleveland Mill rnd Po^ver Company. The Schencks have made a real con tribution to the industrial life of CleveLand County in particular and North Carolina ■ and the South in general through the long years, and at no time has greater service been rendered in a more intelligent and generous mp.riner than is now being done both by the plant at Lavmclile and the Lilly Mills Company in Shelby. The Rotary Club hon ored itself in honoring Mr. Schenck. I should like to send a word of greeting to all of the boys from Lawndale r^nd Cleveland County vrtio are in the Armed Services, 'v/herever they mv^.y be located, and to say that all the people of Cleveland County are unitedly, c^nd unanimously backing them and are very proud of all they are doing and achieving. \Ie are hoping for a complete victory ^Jid for their early return home. Yours very truly, Clyde R. Hoey Shelby, North Carolina MR. GEO, HAF:T RETURNS TO HIS HOI^iE. V/e’re happy to have Mr, George Hart home again after an operation at the Shelby hospital -:nd we, who v.'ork with him in the office, missed him a great deal. Mr, Jim Blottman of Kansas City, one of our salesmen, did a swell job of pinch-hitting for Mr, Hart, but has now returned to his home. We knovj you boys, join us in v;ishing for Mr. Hart a complete recovery in the very near future and that he will soon be back on the job .'ind also helping cut on the Hoover Rail vdth his usual fine spirit of cooperation.
