HOLIE ON FURLOUGH
Pvt, Lcxie Price of Key Vfest, Fla., was here during the past month for a two-weeks
furlough vdth his mother, 1.5rs. Margaret Price, and his sister, Shirley. I'Irs. Price
has three sons in. the service and is rightfully proud of the fine record they are
all making. Tvvo of her sons are now overseas.
Pvt. Jack Cloninger, stationed at Fort Bi’agg, N.C., has been spending a ten-day
furlough with his parents, llr. and lirs. Henry Cloninger. lirs. Cloninger is another
proud mother as she too has three sons in the service. Jack looks fine and seemed
to always enjoy just loafin' around with the fellows, while here.
Pvt. Graham Click has been here for a short visit with his sister, LIrs. Laxton
Mauney and llr. Mauney. As you Icnov/, Mrs. Mauney writes the monthly column "Time
On L'jy Hands" and does a swell job too. She has four brothers in the service —
Seems we have lots of those "3 and 4-Stcir" people around here.
S/Sgt. Shuf. Ramsaur is spending a 15-day furlough with his wife, lirs, Blanton and
also his parents, lir. and Mrs. M.S. Ramsaur. Doris spent sometime this past month
with Shuf down at Fort Benning, Ga, and they returned home together. Doris reports
she had a marvelous time — met lots of soldiers and their attractive wives.
Pvt, Parker Wray, who has been stationed in North Africa for sometime is back in
the States now on an extended furlough. He is recuperating from a wound received
while in front line action. His friends wish for him a speedy recovery, and also
for his ivife, the former Miss Maggie Bridges, who is now a patient in the Vifestern,
N.C, Sanatorium at Black Mountain. ’
Paul McMurray, A/S, spent a furlough this past month with his wife and other members
of his family. He has now returned to Bainbridge, Hd, where he will be assigned to
active duty. Paul has a brother, Ralph, ;jho is serving overseas and writes us of
very interesting experiences.
Pvt, "Junior" Richards of Camp Forrest, Tenn., recently spent a four-dry pass vdth
his parents, Mr, arid Mrs, P,P, Richards. His Dad was wearing a nighty big grin the
other day when we sa;v him mailing Christmas packages to his two sons in service,
"Hunior" and Cecil,
Midshipman Diivight Hord of Chapel h'ill, N.C,, spent several'days this past month with
his parents, Llr, and Mrs, Maurice Hord. Dvdght looked grand in his uniform, has
gained a lot of weight, and really makes a fine looking "gob". He expects to soon
be transferred to Great Lal^es, 111, for further training. One night, \iihile Dwight
was at home, his sister, Frances Hord Phillips, gave a lovely party in his honor.
The ra*iter had the pleasure of being "among those present" and can vouch for all
having loads of fun.
Lt, Bob Forney recently spent a week-end with his parents, Mr, and Mrs, C,D,Forney.
Bob brought a friend, Lt, Pete Geiser, with him as his week-end guest, Pete is from
Salem, Oregon, just a "whoop and a holler" from here. Bob and Pete are two handsome •
Lieutenants and seemed to be having a swell tine. Bob is stationed at Maxton-Laurin-
burg Air Base at Maxton, N.C., and gets to cone hone often.
Pvt.'David Janes, of Camp Stewart, Ga., was hone for a recent week-end with his
wife, and baby, Diane. Doubtless you have already'noticed the darling baby on this
month's front cover — iVell, she's David's "pride n' joy" . V/e have a sneaking sus
picion David is going to enjoy showing this month's Hoover Rail to all his buddies.
