How well I remember the first job you applied for after you finished business
school, and his advice to you was "keep your chin up and keep .smiling."
We have everything under perfect control:on the home front,, and. hope yoU:are
satisfied with your work. Too much security would be fatal. It would take all the.
fun out of the .fight. V/here there is no struggle.,, there would be no strength. If
somebody staked us .-to- aU. we wanted, we would .be a race of. weaplings, but if we
have the brains and courage, we will win, .vJhat has all this.ito dO'vdth you^-Just
this-—Many .Americans believe in freedom and equality only, for themselves. ITiey
haven’t enough.self confidence or true self respect to facaicompetitxpn-on a fair
base; Envy, and. fear make them mean. They are afraid they cankeep their present
advantages o,r gain what they- covet, if others eire, given a fair chance iv No other'
system has ,worked go well as kind, and friendly co-operation; 'If-you gain by force,
trickery, unfairne.Ss, you will lose as sure as the gun. People''" sneer at the idea,
but the golden .rule is still the smartest way„to'get along;inia world full of
people as human, as you are. >
