Dear Hoover Rail Staff:
Just received my February copy of Hot Off the Hoover Rail and sure was more than
pleased to get it, as I always am looking for it at the end of'every month.
In my outfit there isn't a fellow from old North Carolina, but lots of them get
a great kick out of reading it. It has been some time since I have had any time to
write you and tell you how very much I do enjoy the copies I get.
Hero for the last five weeks we have been pushing the Germans so fast we haven't
‘had time to write our home folks like we shaild, but as I write this I am dug in way
down'in a fox hole and am very proud of the good solid ground we have to dig ourselves
into, I am^now somewhere deep in Gterraany and we are still pushing them.
Well, as I have been trying to keep up with all the nev/s I can> I read in our
paper, which we get every day and is called the "Stars and Stripes", the war in the
South Pacific is going well — here's hoping some ni^t I will go to sleep and wake up
and the war will be over and I mean completely over.
Well, I want to ask for Pvt, Jack Cloninger's address for I would like to write
him, and now I want to say hello to all of the’people in Lav^dale and to my mother,

Dear Jim & All:
I guess its about time for me to write again, and thank you for the copies of
the Hoover Rail. Just received the March edition and I really enjoyed it a lot, I
always look forward for yotir copies each nionth, ,
I vfould have written you sooner, but our spare minutes are very limited over
here. These "nips” keep'us pretty busy sometimes, I noticed where a lot of the boys
from home are over here, I sure would like to run'into some of them some time. My
brother and I were both on Saipan at the same time, but we didn't get to see each
other,
Vfe were in our first invasion not so long ago. It was Iwo Jiraa, That Island
was pretty hard to take, but after we got a lot of men on the beach it didn't take
long then. There wer'^ some horrible scenes there for a few days, I will never for
get the morning that the Marines hit the beach on D-Day, They deserve all the credit
they got there,
I will close for now. Thanks to all who make it possible that I receive the
Hoover Rail,
