CAB ORDERS HEARING ON CMH; SEEN AS THIRD GATEWAY WEST FOR PAI
SALES CONTEST OFFERS
PARIS AS REWARD
One of the most challenging air
line contests, in which every
employee may participate with
the ultimate reward of a trip
to Paris, Frankfort and Rome,
is being offered Piedmont Air
lines beginning Nov. 1.
The contest is being held in co
operation with Air France and
will run from Nov. 1 through
April 1954, with two winners
eligible. The first prize is
the reserved round-trip to Paris,
Frankfort and Rome and the sec
ond is to London and Paris.
Any airline employee may parti
cipate in the contest which will
be based on the number of dollars
sold in tickets over the Air
France Airlines system. Regard
less of the department, the PAI
employee may sell tickets on Air
France and have them credited to
him during the promotion. In
addition to the European trip,
the winner may also designate
another PAI employee to make the
trip with him which may be taken
during the summer.
Lee Golson said that Claude
Pineau, sales representative of
Air France, will be in INT some
time during October to more
fully outline details of the con
test and will also visit a number
of principal stations.

The long-sought bid of Piedmont Airlines for a route extension to
Columbus, Ohio has been officially scheduled for hearing by the CAB
soon, R. D. Hager, Vice President, announced.
In an order of investigation and consolidation issued Sept. 23, the
Board called upon Piedmont Airlines to show cause why the gap between
CHW and CMH should not be closed. The CAB also consolidated in this
case the application of Eastern Airlines for service between Columbus
and Charleston, all of which means we are going to have mighty stiff
competition for this important route.

Hager said, however, an effort will
be made to have this portion rein
stated at a pre-hearing conference.
"This investigation order means a
hearing may be held months or even
years sooner than if it were handled
in a routine order", Mr. Hager said.
It is expected that the hearing will
be held in about two months and a
final decision issued in eight to
ten months.
In the application filed by the com
pany in 1949, request to serve CMH
from CHW,included intermediate stops
of Parkersburg and Marietta.
