CAB ORDERS HEARING (Continued) Assistance from interested civic leaders and other airline parties who will benefit by this added route portion is expected to make PAI's request one of the strong est before the Board. While Col umbus has long had very good aii service in all other directions, its service to the Piedmont and South Atlantic area has been sad ly deficient. Piedmont's appli cation will fill all of this needed service and will in fact make possible more new one carrier service to cities in this area than will the application of EAL. An award to Piedmont of this new route segment would make possible for the first time direct service from Columbus to such important points as Charleston, Roanoke, Richmond, Norfolk, Ofiarlotte, Huntington, Tri-Cities, Winston- Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh- Durham, Fayetteville and Wilmington. **************** NEW I NT TICKET OFFICE LOOMS AS BIDS ASKED Bids for alterations to the INT airport terminal building, which will provide Piedmont Airlines with a completely new ticket of fice will be received by the air port manager October 12, it was learned recently. Plans for the new lobby office were approved sometime ago and opening of bids will hasten the transfer of PAI quarters from their present small area to a large and more adequately situ ated section of the lobby. The present lunch counter and dining room in the terminal will be altered to provide the space for PAI. Included in the remodel ing, first since the building was constructed, is more space for the CAA office. **************** God does not want us to do extra- things: He wants us to do ordi nary things extraordinarily well. -2- FLIGHT CREWS BID NEW BASE Changeup in flight schedules has also seen changes in flight per sonnel over the three crew bases with IMN losing two to ORF, and gaining one of the original from ORF. Capt. Roy Brown and First Officer Downey elected to fly from ORF, while Capt. Berkeley returns to IMN from ORF after about a year and a half. From the INT base, Capt. Gray Booth has gone to ORF, and First Officers Williams and Agee are in ORF as reserves. IMN flight personnel still are in doubt as to what the Navy is going to do about the airport. Theyreport the thing is "still a mass of disorganized confusion. They are still undecided as to when they will move in on us. However, construction work on the field is going ahead, and should have a nice airport when finished." **************** PAI HOST TO AVL ATA MEET Asheville was the location for the meeting of the A.T.A. Those representing their respective airlines the week of September 13th were: Danny O'Keefe-CAP, Dick Dinning-Sec'y. ATA, Henry Fenner-FAL, Frank Gass-TTA, Joe Brown-TWA, Jack King-DAL, Joe George-EAL, Jimmy Dean-BNF, Karl Tewell-AAA, Don Linklafer-NWA, Col. Merriweather-AAL, Henry Harrison-UAL, Bux Buxton-PAA, and J. W. Lewis-PAI. The meeting was concluded with a picnic and the local managers, Ed Young of DAL CS, Dick Wettach CAP and Jimmie Fields PAI, were invited. **************** Before marriage a woman knows all the answers; Afterwards she knows all the questions. **************** SPACE REQUEST WORDING CHANGE DUE OCTOBER 15 A new system of reservation mess age wording, standardized to speed handling between major airlines, will be placed into effect by Piedmont Airlines October 15. The new message structure in ef fect will be like a new language, Gordon Brown has advised all sta tion managers and reservation personnel in a detailed letter outlining the procedure to be followed. The system was developed and tried out by airlines serving Chicago, and incorporates an inter-airline teletype circuit, providing stan dardized booking service. A uniform message structure was developed which all participating airlines now use, and because of the success of this project, it appears the system will be install ed at other points, also served by Piedmont. For this reason, PAI is making the change to conform to an industry system. Detailed instructions for using the new method are being sent to all concerned, and various tests and checks will be made by the individual stations to insure a minimum of error. **************** PILOTS BACK FUND DRIVE Pledges leading to ICO per cent participation in the United Fund campaign through Piedmont Airlines were unanimously voted by pilots of the INT Council in a meeting here last week. Discussion of the drive under way in Winston-Salem and many other communities this month was held during the regular Council meet ing and their full cooperation was pledged. **************** No habit has any real hold on you other than the hold you have on it
