ENTRANCE - CHARLOTTE AIR TERMINAL
On the east bank of the Catawba River stands North Carolina's largest city - Charlotte. With its population of over 150,000,
Charlotte has developed into a major distribution and retail center, and is still growing.
Current pride of Charlotteans is their magnificent new air terminal at Douglas Field. Long needed, the new brick and glass struc
ture replaces the ramshackle old frame terminal, a relic of World War II. The terminal has been designed to provide every modern
convenience to the passengers and to the people serving them. It is fully air conditioned, with two fine dining rooms. The Coffee
Shopon the main floor offers fast service of good food around the clock, while the Dogwood Room on the mezzanine accommodates
more leisurely diners. A stainless steel and terrazzo open staircase leads to the second floor, which houses CAA offices, airport
executive offices and a beautiful observation deck.
On the technical side, there is a complete interphone dial telephone system which eliminates tying up outside lines for interoffice
calls. Each office has a unique clock controlled by radio from a master clock in Washington, accurate to 1/5 of a second. Offices
are spacious, providing plenty of room for future expansion. Of course, words cannot do justice to the beauty and efficiency of
the new building, so why not go and see for yourselfl
