GOLSON GUESSES-SOUR! It would appear that as a Traffic fore caster, Lee Golson would make a good gopher rancher. Shown are Clint Graver and Thelma Taylor receiving the Big Pay off from the Senator, who bet we would not carry 30,000 passengers. Each of Lee's hot little hands is clutching two bucks and a half, the price of being wrong. Quota for July is the highest in Piedmont's history, but after two consecutive months of setting new records, it looks well within reach. The Piedmonitor goes way out on a limb and predicts 32,350 passengers for July. How about it, Lee? JUNE RECORD MONTH 30168 PASSENGERS CARRIED Piedmont continued to set the pace by carrying a record-smashing 30,168 passen gers in June, an average of 1005 passen gers per da)} or approximately 77 passengers per airplane per day. Tri Cities and Cin cinnati each broke into the coveted 3000 Club for the second consecutive time, June marking Tri Cities third time with 3000 passengers or more. System load fac tor for June was 51.46 percent. Quota for July is set at 31651, an average of 1021 passengers per day, based on a 53 percent load factor. June load factor was the highest since August, 1952, and is approximately nine percent higher than the load factor for the year through May. Obviously, July figures represent quite a goal, but with the July 4th long weekend and 31 days in the month, the goal is attainable. FIXED BASE FLASHES Things are really humming down at Fixed Base this month. Mainly, because vaca tion time is here! The engine shop and maintenance divi sion closed for a week the early part of July, and the fellows and their families were off to various parts of the country, some only as far as the Coast of N . C., while others ventured as far away as Cal ifornia. Joan Joy took off for a weekend down at Myrtle Beach and came back with a beautiful suntan. Immediately thereafter, she departed for Long Beach, Calif., to spend a short vacation with her sister. Mr. Northington spent a few very pleas ant cool days out in Estes Park, Colorado, at the mid-summer meeting of Aviation Distributors and Manufacturers Associ ation, of which he is Vice President. Carolyn Manos, and husband. Bill, traveled down to Florida to spend their vacation at Panama City, on the West Coast. Seems like everyone is heading to the beach these days to try and cool off. There has been a lot of activity in the flight school department these last few weeks. Bill O'Neal reports that he now has 28 students in all phases of flight in struction, and with all this beautiful weather, how about some of you guys and gals coming on down and trying your hand at flying? We are happy to welcome some new em ployees to the Engine Shop: Ralph Bentley, Von Shelton, Foy Owen and Robert Lilly. There are also other changes to be seen down this way - namely, an addition to the Engine Shop,as well as a new line shack, which is very attractive with its white siding and red trim. We are very pleased to announce that Piedmont has been awarded the contract for overhauling all Lycoming engines for eight Arrry Contract Flying Schools, lo cated all over the U. S. This is quite a fine credit to our men in the Engine Shop, and we are proud that we were able to get this contract and that we have the facilities for handling such a big under taking. Good to see Hubert Pitts back with us after a rather lengthy absence due to illness. After many months of waiting, delivery has at last been made on our Piper Twin Engine Apache demonstrator. This beau tiful ivory and red aircraft is of the most advanced design, and we are ready to begin taking orders for delivery of this airplane. Why not stop by and take a look, it's well worth it. Marian Harris WE DOOD IT! Jackpots fall, bells ring, lights flash, and three brass bands begin to play, be cause we've done it again - broken another record, not only once, but twice in the same month. Prior to July 2, the biggest day (from a passengers-carried standpoint) in Piedmont history was January 2, 1954, when 1247 souls filled our seats. But on July 2, 1315 passengers boarded Pacemakers, and to prove it was no fluke, on July 5, 1286 more rode in Piedmont comfort to their destinations. Predictions of things to come: 1400 passen gers September 3. JUNE SERVICE AWARDS Asa W. Tompkins, I NT, (5 years) Charles B. Cross, ORF, (5 years) Joseph H. High, CHW, (5 years) F.
