CARIBBEAN VACATIONLAND
EVER BEEN TO SAN JUAN?
Now that the beaches are closing, many
people with fall and winter vacations
will be looking for new spots to visit.
One of the most picturesque places, with
a delightful winter climate, is San Juan,
in Puerto Rico.
San Juan is easily reached via Eastern,
our best customer, on daily flights from
New York, Miami, and Chicago. Here's
a new spot for you to suggest. Take it
from us, (we've been there) it's well
worth a visit. Don't forget to recommend
San Juan to your favorite people.
MORE VACATION TIPS
We received the following letter from
Kitch Kitchen on his recent Miami vaca
tion, and we thought It was so interesting
that we'd pass it along to you verbatim.
This looks like a good deal to our research
staff.
"A short conference with Henry Wood and
the Credit Union, Pacemaker flight 29,
a Delta-C&S DC-7 Sunday night owl
coach, a five-hour layover in Atlanta,
standing-by waiting list counters, two
gallons of coffee and a couple of packs
of cigarettes were the beginning of a won
derful vacation at sunny Miami Beach.
"At Miami International Airport, Avis
Car Rental Service had a new Chevrolet
awaiting us. Avis rates to airline per
sonnel are $1 .00 per day or $5.00 per
week for insurance plus ten cents a mile.
Ten minutes after our arrival we were on
our way to the Sun Ranch Motel on the
beach. Under the capable management of
Dora Wheeler, the Sun Ranch is very
cordial to airline employees and offers
attractive air-conditioned rooms at re
duced rates. The hotel-type room is
equipped with a double and single bed,
modern furniture and a bath with tub-
shower. This rents for $40.00 per week.
For $1 .00 per day additional, you may
have o parlor-type room with kitchen and
all utensils and twin Hollywood beds which
convert into divans during the day.
"The motel dining room converts into a
cocktail lounge at 4:00 PM. Every room
is air conditioned and the tile salt water
pool in the patio offers safe swimming
for those who decline the ocean with King
Neptune's creatures.
"Television is available in the room, bar
or lobby for the stay-at-homes. Swimming
parties and wiener roasts "on the house"
are often provided for guests at the Sun
Ranch. It is a wonderful place for the
entire family. Swimming lessons for chil
dren are given In the pool by George
Duke, the life guard.
"Located on the northern end of Miami
Beach, away from the crowded hotel
area, the Sun Ranch has been in operatioi
for only one year and is experimenting
with various rates, but you can be assured
of choice accommodations at a reasonable
rate.
"My only regret is that we had to leave
these surroundings too soon. If at all
possible, we hope to spend our vacation
each year at the Sun Ranch.
"This article would not be complete with
out a word of praise for Delta-C&S Air
lines personnel and.equipment. NRSAs
are treated with the same courtesy and
respect as revenue passengers. The
Convairs, DC-6s and DC-7s are kept
in top operating condition, clean and
comfortable.
"On our return trip, we had a nice view
of the Grand Bahama Islands from a
DC-7 cruising better than 400 mph at
19,000 feet. We were served a hot
meal out of Atlanta on Convair flight
444 - and what a meal - Southern fried
chicken, creamed potatoes, pickles, hot
rolls, coffee, tea or milk and cake.
The meal was complete with a sample
package of cigarettes.
"We had to leave Delta-C&S at Knoxvilfe
due to space, but continued our flight
home the following morning on Piedmont
80 and 20. it felt good to get back on
our own system again. Piedmont's service
and courtesy can't be surpassed. If you
really want to know how a passenger
feels and thinks, ride off-line sometime
and remember how you are treated. If
we are nice to our passengers, they'll
be nice to us... .by riding Piedmont
again.. . .with a friend."
IMN PILOT MAKES
MERCY FLIGHT
Mrs. Russell Shelton, Gastonia, N. C.,
Is mighty grateful to A! Crisler, IMN First
Officer, who. In a single-engine airplane,
braved fog and rain to deliver x-rays of
the critically 111 woman to a Winston-
Salem hospital.
Crisler delivered the pictures after several
other pilots had refused because of the
weather. The pictures were neecfed for an
immediate operation on Mrs. Shelton, who
was suffering from a brain tumor. Without
the operation, Mrs. Shelton might have
died, and Crisler's action is at least partly
responsible for saving her life.
We wish to extend our deepest
sympathy to:
Captain H. H. Hutcheson, upon the
death of his mother.
First Officer Lloyd Lyons, upon the
death of his father.
