RALEIGH - DURHAM EXPANDS AIRPORT FACILITIES
NEW $425,000 TERMINAL READY FOR TRAVELERS
Raleigh-Durham Airport's new $425,000 terminal building, termed one of the finest in the Southeast, was dedicated October I by
Luther B. Hodges, Governor of North Carolina. The new building, replacing the old temporary wooden structure opened in 1946, is
both modern and functional, housing Piedmont,Capital and Eastern Air Lines, styl ish "picture window" restaurant, U-Drive-|t, Limo
usine and Air Taxi Companies.
Other important changes have been made at Raleigh-Durham, tool A new super-highway now greets incoming passengers at the air
port entrance, shortening the driving time to either Raleigh or Durham to about 15 minutes. A one-thousand foot extension to the
instrument runway provides 5,500 feet of landing area; a 350-car, 24-hour guarded parking lot has been constructed; plans for the new
terminal include possible addition of another story to house additional airlines,CAA, and Control Tower, and a new apartment build -
ing is also going up next to the terminal to house some of the airport personnel I
The time-worn familiar announcement of "No Smoking Beyond The White Fence" is now making way for the improved version of "No
Smoking Beyond Gate 3, Please!"
Piedmont Airlines salutes the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority for its success in attaining the goal of providing more spacious
facilities for the airlines and the most modern conveniences for our passengers. The citizens of the Raleigh-Durham area have an
airport of which to be proud.
