ASHEVILLE - I know it is going to be a surprise for most of the stations to hear from AVL in such a long time, but with boarding lots of passengers, painting the office, worrying about the weather and breaking in a new agent, it doesn't give one time to do anything else, altho' to be "frank" there was not much news anyway. Jim Fields took his vacation last month, which was spent in Ft. Wayne. Agent Charlie Donahooisnow on his vacation, which he plans to spend in Fla. He said that since the doctor took him off smoking and drinking, it isn't much use to go anywhere, Sam Murchison and his wife,Ann, will be next to leave and they will begoingto ATL and on to MEM. It seems that their boxer, "Champ", who is a son of Jim's dog, will have to go back to the Vets while they're gone. The new agent we have now is Kenneth Perkins, whose home is in AVL. Ken is catching on to the airl ine work very we 11. He told me the other day that since his horse stepped on a nail and caused an in fection, he may have to destroy him.... hope not because he's had the horse for about seven years. BECKLEY -BKW is now in the process of making improvements with the new runway extension to 5000 feet. Since closing the Raleigh County Airport until al I construct ion is completed, personnel of BK^ have been assigned temporary duties at otherstations. Bob Wilson is inBLF assisting Gordon Wag ner's crew.Charlie Swift Is observing the weather at SOP. Charlie Fields, our new Station Manager from EWN is in the process of moving. We wish to welcome Charlie and hope that he and his family find BKW the kind of city which Doug Guin found so hard to leave. Another newcomer to BKW is Jay Johnson, agent from CHW. BLUEFIELD - We had an incident a few days ago when it was really nice for a flight to be late I A couple checked in for flight 60 which was operating over an hour late; upon learning this, the couple suggested that they return home and be back in time for the flight. Upon reach ing their home, they found their kitchen was in flames; called the fire department and was able to save everything. They still returned in time for flight 60 and that is one time we saw smiles instead o f frowns when a flight was late. We've had a few changes in personnelhere too, Paul Pucket returned to T R I and Adron Woodruff aame over from TYS to re place Paul. Sorry to see Paul leave but we all know a Tennessean would be more satisfied in TRI. Adron seems to like BLF just fine so far,at least he is closer to home than in TYS.The mileage is about 100 miles to us, but t o Adron it must seem 20 for he thinks nothing of leaving here after work at 1800, take his gal to a dance down in N. C. and drives back in time for work the following morning. Wedding bells have been ringing in BLF too, as our new agent Ted Farrington got married a couple of weeks ago. The bride was M iss Elaine Shrader also from the BLF area. Wishin' you lots of luck, Ted and Elaine 1 We're glad to have Bob Wilson and J. Johnston from BKW with us while their field is closed for airport improvements. I think they are anxious to return to BKW with their long runway though. We are still trying to push our monthly boarding up to the 1,000 mark, but it seems that the odds are against us. We got up to 950 in July which was the closest, but we haven't given up by any means. CHARLESTON - It's been said to Jack Kelley that every time the Piedmonitor re porter in CHW writes and article on "trip ping", that he is the chief topic. But honestly Jack does travel on his days off and goes to so many interesting pi aces and makes so many interesting contracts that we certainly think it's newsy, don't you? p.S. Jack just returned from vacationland in Minnesota, having visited former agent, Connie Sassor and hubby, Ollie. Ollie and Jack took a big fishing trip. Haven't heard too much about the fish caught, but there were the usual ones which got away. Bet you all have missed Agent Anne Isaacs. "Annie B", as she's known to all, has been in the hospital for surgery, and is recuperating at home. Really miss her witty ticketing language and lookforward to her speedy recovery. Joe High, Sales Representative, has just received his private license to fly and the proud father of an Aeronca. Joe is the fourth CHW Piedmont agent to have his private license. Others holding the license of the "brotherhood" are Jack Kelley, Franklin Burns and Don Garrett. In trying to collect news of the station, Agent Ronald Abshire wants everyone to know that six months old son, Moe, now weighs 17 pounds, and istruly a handsome boy. The shotguns are really glowing and ready for the big hunting trip set up by Burns, Berry, Abshire, Bender, and Paul Kelley. Now there's a lively group! Just wonder how many wild bears will be trapped. Eddie Awash is back in CVG on vacation -- he really likes the place. Enjoyed a visit from Mr.Brown and Johnnie Lewis. It's always nice to see you so try to come back real soon. CHARLOTTE - I guess a good way to start this off would be to introduce our new Agent, Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy reported to us last week for a short training period be fore going up to DCA in reservations . Many of you have heard of him and his family - he is one of the twins of the "Johnson Family Singers. "Welcome tothe piedmont group .Jimm y's twin brother cams to the counter the other day,and thinking he was the one that belonged to us, was asked why he didn't come on and go to work. He says, "Well, 1 really got a job in a hurry, all I want is an application." I still don't know which one we got, but 1 believe they are working every other day. Out StationManager,Ed Best, has returned to CLT from a two-weeks stay with the Air Force, on active duty. Many of you will be pleased to know that Ed has made Captain now and is real sharp with the Bars- -2-
