Ozark Air Lines is adding three more Hi-
Per DC-3s to build its fleet to 20 planes
Laddie Hamilton, President, announced.
The three additional planes have been
leased from the U. S. Navy with CAB
approval. Under the terms of the long term
lease, Ozark is permitted to, complete
ly overhaul and modify the Navy planes to
Ozark standards, v/hich nov^ include the
Hi-Per (high performance) conversion .The
Hi-Per Ozark DC“3 modification increases
the speed of the plane approximately 20
miles per hour v/rthout extra power and
greatly improves the general performance
and safety of the airplane. Ozark is the
first scheduled airline in the U. S. to
adopt the new development.
Th e overhaul and modification of the three
Navy planes will be performed for Ozark
by Pan American Airways at Brownsville,
Texas. Pan American is the originator of
the Hi-Per DC-3 development for use in
flying its routes over the Andes Mountains
in South America.
Completion of the overhaul and modifi
cation of two of the planes is scheduled
to join the Ozark fleet in October.

VISITS PIEDMONT
A Bell Telephone System Survey team
visited the Piedmont Airlines General
Office in INT recently for the purpose of
gathering data and statistics on communi
cations requirements of the present and
future.
Mr. R. E. Conrath and Mr. T. J. Doyle,
membersof thisspecial group,were assigned
to Piedmont Airl ines for this study inwhich
they and their col leagues expect to make a
consolidated report to the Bell System
management by April of 1 957 on the future
communications needs of the airl ines indus
try .
