CHARLESTON Ruth Miller CHW has been quite busy with the many rainy days through the month and the Kana wha Airport has been crowded with passen gers. During the month, a Station Meeting was held and all employees enjoyed quite a "bull" session which lasted almost until midnight. The new Sales Training Program is beginning and we're all quite confident that much will be accomplished. Denver Fisher, with PAI about 2-1/2 years, has resigned,to work in the Planning Dept, of Kaiser Aluminum, Ravenswood, W.Va . Don Garrett began his training with the CAA February 18, starting observation at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport. Mr. Cash celebrated another birthday with a big cake inscribed "Happy Birthday Boss." CHW finally has storage lockers in the Lobby for the passenger's service. No more leaving the bags behind the counter and having to jump over them like an obstacle course. Most of us counteragents are well trained for high jumping. After the spring snows, we hope you al I plan a visit to CHW. LYNCHBURG Martha Brown Hoskins Almond is leaving on the 28th to join the ranks of the Postal Service - he will be a walking postman. We will miss him, but hope he will be happy in his new work. Henry Minnick is on sickleave. He will be out most of the month of March - had a minor operation and is doing fine. One of our chronic late passengers showed up for an early morning flight to find the ticket agent in front of the office yelling for him to run I As the passenger ran through the office the agent opened the other door leading to the ramp and handed him his ticket, - calling after him, "I should kiss you good-by, as Blondie does Dogwood!" Another late passenger, whom we all ex pected to blow his top because he hod missed the I imo pickup-went through the door praising Piedmont. Seems as though he has never had such good service from any other line - all we did was hold the flight! ! i ! Funny thing was, he felt itwas all for him,and there were three passengers in the cab! NORFOLK Ed Best, from LYH, paid us a little visit and it was nice seeing Ed again. Oh , Bill Crowe that is. Sales Representative from CVG, was also down our way and it was nice seeing him. The Norfolk Aviation Club had a dance March 2 in the Azalea Room of the Munici pal Airport. Avery enjoyable time was had by all. United Airlines' gain, our loss, as Joan Pascarosa, Reservationist, is leaving PAI to be a hostess for United. We are going to miss her but w i s h her lots of luck with United Airlines. at Southern Pines. If there are any suggestions towards ideas for getting more passengers to fly, please let us hear from you I TRI- CITIES Don Shanks News is scarce around here this month but had this I ittle incident to happen the other day which goes to show that a passenger will go to any extreme and sometime risk his life to catch a flight. Flight 52 arrived per schedule and after a rough few minutes we accompi ished an all most impossible feat of digging our cargo and bags off the bottom and soon there - after, headed to the terminal leaving the nose stand and front cargo door open . Evidently, at about this time thepurserde- cided to close the passenger door account of cool weather present at that time .As we proceeded to the terminal with our carts we heard a shril I whistle and loud yell ing be hind ourbacks and turned to see a passenger gal loping across the ramp at about 20 knots (and he had a head wind) and before we could stop him he had graceful ly cl imbed to the top of the nose stand, got down on his knees and crawled up into the front cargo bins. Upon further investigation it was re vealed that thepassengerthought the flight was ready to leave and, as he so put it, "By golly, you're not going to leave me." Oh well, what would we do without them? Agent Larry Redden, recently tookhisArmy Training classes are beginning this month physical. He does not expect to get h is and everyone isexpecting toenjoy os well Greetings from Uncle Sam until after April, as profit from these classes which will give us training in reservations and the art of selling those badly needed empty seats we SOUTHERN PINES sometimes have left over. Thanks to the agent on duty at SOP for be ing alert and awake when Mr.Dcrvisvisited us last month. Both the agent and Mr. Davis had an interesting talk concerning the news about our order for F-27s. Casey had a partial ly good trip to CVG- Station Manager's Meeting. Most of the managers seemed to have met in the I NT terminal Coffee Shop, thanks to the weather. The othervisitor toSOPwos the Honorable E. G. Cooke from IMN. He sure gained weight while he was temporarily stationed -3- WASHINGTON K. H.
