SHIPPING & RECEIVING HANDLES 4500 LBS. MATERIAL DAILY a A. H. Burton One of the smallest but very important departments of Piedmont Airl ines is Shipping and Receiving. A. H. Burton, a vetran of nine years with Piedmont is Chief Clerk and is ably assisted by Dick Caudle, and Cliff Pitts. An average day finds these men at work sorting COMAT and U.S. Mail for dis tribution to various departments. They handle all orders for outside stations, in cluding maintenance parts, advertising and station supplies. The outgoing freight aver ages 1,000 pounds per day. Incoming freight, which ranges up to 3500 pounds per day, is inspected and del ivered. Records are kept on al I outside maintenance inventory. In the course of one y e a r , over 15,0 0 0 different items are received by this Depart^ ment. |f all the 55-gallon drums received last year were p I a c e d end to end, they would reach twice the height of the Wash ington Monument. The tremendous amount of work performed by Shipping and Receiving and the efficient manner in which it is handled makes this Department a very important part of Pied mont's operation.
