MATERIAL DAILY

A. H. Burton
One of the smallest but very important
departments of Piedmont Airl ines is Shipping
and Receiving. A. H. Burton, a vetran
of nine years with Piedmont is Chief Clerk
and is ably assisted by Dick Caudle, and
Cliff Pitts.
An average day finds these men at work
sorting COMAT and U.S. Mail for dis
tribution to various departments. They
handle all orders for outside stations, in
cluding maintenance parts, advertising and
station supplies. The outgoing freight aver
ages 1,000 pounds per day.
Incoming freight, which ranges up to 3500
pounds per day, is inspected and del ivered.
Records are kept on al I outside maintenance
inventory.
In the course of one y e a r , over 15,0 0 0
different items are received by this Depart^
ment. |f all the 55-gallon drums received
last year were p I a c e d end to end, they
would reach twice the height of the Wash
ington Monument.
The tremendous amount of work performed by
Shipping and Receiving and the efficient
manner in which it is handled makes this
Department a very important part of Pied
mont's operation.
The wise carry their knowledge as they do
their watches, not for display, but for
their own use.
