PAI'S STOCKROOM FACILITIES AMONG THE BEST CAB MEMBERS ENDORSE F-27 ISSSlPi&iMlli Largest collection of non-ferrous metals in the Winston-Salem area. The complex problem of maintaining appro>f- imately 15,000 items valued at $465,000 which all contribute in some manner to the daily operation of Piedmont Airl ines, would be a staggering job without the efficient operation of the INT Stockroom. H. L. Vogler, Stockroom Manager and L. J. Lambert, the Chief Store K-.eper, are ably assisted by JoeWilliams, H. E. Dull, Tom Hayes, D. L. Hayes, H. G. Britt, F. C. Livengood, E. T. Jordan, D. L. Hastings, J. E. Peel, Herbert Ibergs and W. H . Craver. Over 1500 tubes of 140different typesare required for Radio. By maintaining a 24 hour service,/ days a week, they keep the mechanics and stations supplied with every item needed to keep our planes flying. In addition to the air line requirements, parts are stocked for approximately 25 executive aircraft in the DC-3 and Lodestar class. FM Tool Room Counter In spite of the additional floor space, extra counters and thousands of additional parts which have been added since they moved into the new hangar, the storeroom personnel have taken all of this in stride and are to be commended for the excellent job they are doing. For those of you at stations outside Winston Salem, the Stockroom has over 9,000 sq . feet of floor space and 3 counters for issu ing parts and materials. A visit tothis Department while you are in INT would be worthwhile. Spare Aircraft Components - 2 - Civil Aeronautics Board startled the air craft industry last week with an unpreceden ted endorsement of Fairchild's F-27 turbo - prop transport. The endorsement was issued in the form of a press release on official CAB stationery. The release quoted CAB members, who had just toured Fairchild's Hagerstown, Md., plant, as describing the F-27 as an aircraft that will give the "airlines a chance to furnish rapid, short-haul transportation." Member Chan Gurney, for example, was quoted as saying the F-27 "will provide better service on a reasonable cost basis to the ultimate benefit of the carriers, the communities served and the general pubi ic . " Harmar Denny and Chairman James Durfee, the other two members who made the trip, were equally enthusiastic. In the eyes of Fairchild, and its competitors, the press release was as good as an official endorsement.
