WILLARD RECEIVES 15 YEAR PIN D.R."Red" Willord, Supt. of the Engine Shop, Fixed Base Division, was presented with a service pin signifying the com pletion of fifteen years of service on April 14. Red Willard started as a mechanic's helper and after completing his apprenticeship in fourteen months, obtained an A & E license. Shortly afterwards, he was trans ferred to Greensboro to manage the mainte nance shop for the Indoctrination Course for Air Force Trainees. He returned to Winston-Salem in 1944 and began to set up the engine shop facilities for Piedmont. In reminiscing, "Red" recalls that his complement of shop ea nent consisted of two carpenter's saw t. .,ks, a plank and miscellaneous hand tools. By early 1V47, the shop was equipped to handle any type small aircraft engine and in addition there to^ hod complete machine shop facilities available to accommodate the small air port operators in the Piedmont area. When the Airl ine Division was formed in 1947, the job of overhauling the lorger engines presented itself and the successful program that followed is attributable in a large part, to his outstanding devotion to duty and the tremendous effort he ex erted to overcome the many obstacles. Red Willard holds the official CAA desig nation of Aircraft Inspector and Aircraft Mechanic Examiner in addition to being a licensed private pilot. B I RTH-O-GRAM Born to Mr. & Mrs. H. P.
