DART ENGINE TRAINER
ARRIVES IN
WINSTON-SALEM
The Rolls-Royce Dart 511 Engine Training
Kit made its trans-atlantic voyage and after
a delay in Norfolk awaiting clearance
through Customs, made its last lap of the
journey to Winston-Salem, arriving on May
18, just barely in time for the training
course which began on May 20.
Reams and reams of printed instruction
material were piled high around the Di
rector of Training, John Rehder's desk,
for the beginning of Rehder's Col lege of
Turbine Knowledge. The accelerated
course on the Dart 51 1 Engine will take 6
hours a day for 15 days with both pilots
and mechanics participating. The first 10
class days cover the Construction, Function,
Operation, Scheduled Servicing and
Handling Techniques of theEngine and will
be required for both pilots and mechanics.
The IcBt 5 days of the course covers practical
servicing, troubie -shootina and control
adjustments and will be required formoin-
tenance personnel in addition to the first
10 day of instruction, approximately 110
Maintenance Supervisors, Inspectors and
Mechanics and about 70 Pilots will attend
these classes with about 20 being assigned
to each class.
For the first three-week period, Mr. Jock
Morton from Rolls-Royce of Montreol,
Canada will assist Mr. Rehder in the in
struction and will also bring the material
up-to-date on the latest modifications and
changes which have been incorporated in
the 511 Engine.
