The Air Transport Association of Americaon behalf of its members,the nation'sscheduleci
airlines, has established an award for airline employees who, in the opinion of proper
authorities, detect or otherwise assist substantially in the apprehension of persons en-
jaged in the malicious destruction of aircraft or those perpetrating bomb hoaxes. The
award carries the sum of one thousand dollars.
^urpose of the award, according to Stuart G. Tipton, President of the ATA, is to en-
:ourage alertness and vigilance on the part of everyone in the all-out attack on the
jomb threat menace.
Washington, D. C., May 17 - A pretty
airlines' reservations sales agent, Shirley
Ann Young of Cleveland, Ohio, has been
cited for her "alertness, cooperation and
sense of duty" in helping the FBI and local
police apprehend the perpetrator of a
"bombhoax." The 21-year-old American
Airlines employee received a $1,000 a-
ward here today from the Air Transport
Association of America in recognition of
the valuable assistance she rendered author
Miss Young received the award at cere
monies held in the Capitol building where

Kenneth B. Keating of N.Y.,both of whom
were instrumental in the passage of a Federal
law to punish "bo^,b hoaxers."
Public Law No. 709which deals with the
willful destruction of aircraft or motor ve
hicles also makes acts of persons conveying
false information in such cases a Federal
offense punishable by fine and imprisonment.
The ATA has estabi ished the award to en -
courage persons to be alert and cooperate
with authorities in such cases.
