CHARLESTON . . .

The "red hot" contest among shifts on the
least number of delays for the month of July
is ended and the picnic for the winning
group was held on August 10 - all day. I
simply must brag on the winners since it
turned out to be P . K. Kel ley's shift, of
which I am a member. Other members of
the eager crew are John Comer, Ronnie
Abshire, J. C. Kirkman. Our very deep
est sympathy to the losing shift leaders,
W. C. Cash and Ed Smoot, along with
their group.
It is regretful that August 15 will be the
last day for agents Lee Davis and Bob Woods.
Although they have no definite plans they
have said they will work in CHW. Both
Lee and Bob have been valuable agents and
will certainly be CHW's loss.
It was enjoyable to visit with Turby thru
the month. His visits are always too short
but certainly are welcomed anytime. Also
enjoyed talking with Mr. Northington and
George Atteberry. Hurry back real soon.
Avis extended a courtesy to all Airlines
and their agents in CHWby Issuing courtesy
cards, thus entitling each agent to park
in downtownCHW(the most congested place
in the world) in the Avis lot - free of
charge, and buy gasoline from their service
station on the lot at a discount. Our hats
off to Avis of CHW for this kind service.
We would like to welcome to CHVY^PAI
family four new men. Clyde Lentz and Jim
McNeil transferred from ROA and Orville
Larch and Bill Scott, both from CHW. We
hope you all like us and will want to stay.
All are bright and really catching on to
the life of an airline station agent.
Irene is about ready to head south MS Y
way for her vacation. Know she'll come
back with a real fine tan while most of us
have lost ours.
We told you this was the year for "girls "
(and, frankly, they are alI beautiful babies).
The third baby girl was born to CHW
station personnel for the average of one per
month. (See Birth-O-Gram)
The annual station picnic was held Aug .
10 at Coonskin Park. It began at 10:00
AM and was over about 9:0CPM.Of course
It was an extra event this year since the
winner of the shift delay contest was hon
ored. Games of Badminton, Horse-shoes,
and Baseball furnished the entertainment.
Some enjoyed swimming. Thehot-dawcp
were delIclous and the covered dishes
brought by each were mighty fitting , and
certainly plenty of food for al I. Aspeclal
treat was a freezer of Ice cream brought by
Orville Larch and his wife. Everyone will
look forward to next year as always.
Ann Is back from vacation, having taken
short trips all around the system. She is
also sporting a new Chevrolet.
CHW mourned the death of Mr.Cecil Goff,
manager and owner of Hert2 U-Drive-It,
this month. He is missed by al I.
CHARLOTTE . . .

As usual, CLT broke her July quota and
record - boarding about 400 more than
July 1956. Our record day was August 2.
Billy Sanders, one of pur newer agents, filed
his flight plan and took off VFR. He was
married In July. Lots of luck!!
J. C. Newell, Assistant Manager, was
elected Vice-chairman of the "Airl ine Pro
gress Committee" during the July meeting.
In this capacity he wil I assist the Chairman,
Ed Porter of Delta Airlines.
One of the main jobs of the "Airline Pro
gress Committee" is to maintain good inter
line relations among the five airlines that
operate out of Charlotte. It Is believed
that the airlines In Charlotte have the best
interline relationship. With Newell upthere
at the helm, this outstanding group wil I con
tinue to do Its good work. He has been
around Charlotte for a long time, starting
in the airline business with Eastern Air
Lines way back when a DC-3 was a "blg-
un". Finally, Johnny came with Piedmont,
which was our gain. He has done a good
job In keeping Piedmont on good terms
with the other carriers and we at CLT
wish Mr. Newell lots of luck with this new
"extra" job and stand ready to helphim In
any way possible.
We were pleased to have Mr. Davis visit
us and to present Non Dabbs with her five
year pin. Much continued success. Nan,
- 2 -
and we are always pleased to have visitors
from INT.
All CLT personnel are going to enjoy a
picnic at Johnnie Newell's house Saturday.
A little fun after this fast moving summer.
We are glad to welcome aboard Madge
Lanier, agent from DCA. She says she
"sho am happy" to be bock south.
Well, we made quota again and set
another record for August boardings.
