COLUMBUS . . . Vacations have come and gone for some of fhe CMH employees. Nancy and herfamily went to MiA for two weeks. She came back with some very good advice for NRSA s, "Don't fly unless you con go non -stop. " Took them twodays to get down toMlAvia ^VG, TYS and ATL. Ed hasn't taken his vacation yet, but has been kept pretty busy going to CVGover the weekends. Too bad the horses don't run down there 365 days out of the year. Ed could retire in no time, Paul headed north with his family. They took a boat from Ohio up into Canada. Sounded like they had a very enjoyable trip. Lee will be off soon with her family for DCA, JAX and Texas. From the looks of her passes she is trying to ride on as many different airlines as possible. Good luck! Jan hasn't decided for sure just where she will be going, but thinks she might end up in LAX, Joanne has finally decided on Swissair for her trip to Europe, She leaves Sept. 28 and is already counting the days. She plans to visit five countries. Our newest addition to the office is Shirley Cunningham. She went to airline school In MKC, makes her home In CMH and Is working out just fine. She has just become engaged and more than likely her first vocation will be her honeymoon. Had a visit recently from Messrs. Davis, Turbiville and Gordon Brown, They came up for the second of the Great Lakes hear ings. Glad to have them and we welcome them back any time. Looks 1 ike CMH-C wil I soon become CMH- F. Our lease on the downtown office Is up in February and from the looks of things we will be moving to the airport. The new terminal building will not be finished by then so, no telling where they will put us. A couple of the gats up here will have to buy cars to get back and forth, but I guess It will be worth It In the long run, LYNCHBURG... . , . M. F. Brown Fran Dresser has just returned from vacation, She spent a week in Nassau and from all reports, must have had a wonderful time . She returned In time to spend her last week of vacation at home recuperating. Husband Ralph, had to work during Fran's vacation, and we have not determined yet if this is the reason for returning so soon or if It Is the reason she had such a good time ? Jack Ell iott starts his vacation today... was some talk he may spend some time in IMN, .fishing, swimming or visiting Cousin Rita. Wewould like to offer our congratulations to Clyde Vaughanonhls recent promotion to Lead Agent, Clyde has been doing the work for some time now and we are all happy to see that he now has the title to go with the work. General Electric, one of the new Industries in LYH, finally got into full swing, and travel on Piedmont out of LYH has shown considerable Increase due to both GE and Babcock & W ilcox Company. To take care of this increase in ticketing and re servations, we have the block ticket accounts with both of these companies. Our reservation department and ticket counter personnel have been busy helping train reservation and ticketing personnel for General Electric and Babcock & WII - cox. M rs,Marie Hudson and Mrs. Delores Duff from GE and Mrs. Charlotte Winfrey and Mrs.June Wilmerfrom B&Whavebeen spending considerable time with us, check ing on procedures, ticketing and reservations, A few more accounts like these and maybe we might look forward to doubling our boardings out of LYH, If you have been In LYH recently and happened to see several agents walking a- round with their nose in a book, you should not suspect the worst, as they were not taking their leisure time to catch up on the most recent novels. These were five of our newer agents studying for their weather observers certificates. Seems as if they were given adeadllne tohave their certifi cates and the Weather Bureau has been a very busy place in the past month. If you happen to ask one of these gentlemen a question and he replies, "Thirty-five hundred scattered, high overcast", please don't think he's nuts. He's just practicing.,., or else his thoughts are on the weather ! 1 Two of these agents have now taken their exams and are fully qualified Weather Observers. Congratulations, Lawrence Overbay and Buddy Robinson. We would like very much to thank Mr. Turbiville for his idea of giving protse, where praise Is due - namely the "Orchids" letters. We might be a little prejudiced here In LYH, since we have had three of these letters since the announcement of this procedure. I'm sure Jdck Elliott, Lawrence Overbay and Buddy Robinson all feel much better, since their efforts topro mote Piedmont and give courteous service has been recognized - Contratulations o- gain to these agents for a job well done II We are all trying to sell Piedmont UATP cards. We had our first one today, that is the first one to include his $425.00 check. We have quite a few prospects, and hove had to order a new supply of applications. Don't think we will sell everyone in LYH - but by the time we get through I'm sure they will all know about it. NORFOLK . . . . . . R. H. Wylie Here's hoping al I who attended the Company picnic had a good time. I know those who went from ORFdid. The food was delicious and as for the races, our station was well represented in all events. We didn't take any of the awards though. Things were really jumping InORF the first few days of August. The Navy turned loose a couple thousand midshipmen and what a "ball"wehad. From the weight of their seabags and gear we were thinking of tak ing a tour of the Naval Base to see i>f it was still there. With this movement we also broke a couple station records, boarded 109 passengers on August 5, which was an all time high for one day,and 1919pass- engers for the whole month which also was an all time high for our station. Other station news, Purser Bob Dean re cently obtained his instrument and instruc tors rating,,, Agent Larry Redden, better known as Pvt. Redden, was drafted Into the Army. . .the Bette's, WyI ies* and Mayhew's have all recently become the proud parents of new autos (well, in about 29 or 30 rrionths they'll be proud, if you know what we mean). Also,we'd like to welcome to our station and Piedmont our new agent Enock Lee, who halls from Moyock,N.C. The Aviation Club of ORF held another (Continued on Poge 4) - 3 -
