Visiting with us this past week were
George Jackson and George Kelley of Cap
ital Airlines in Charleston. We discussed
the new schedules to be effective the 2/^h
of October and, to our amazement, we
don't have the connection we would hope
to have due to the fact that we arrive too
late, or they just leove too early. Pied-
mont-HTW won the contest sponsored by
TWA. We received a wonderful Crosley
Transistor Radio for selling the most seats
on TWA's Flight 61, Cincinnati to San
Francisco.
NEWPORT NEWS ...

October 16: This station was graced with
the presence of Her Most Gracious Majesty
Queen El izabeth II of England and her
husband. Prince Phillip. Her plane, a
Canadian C-5, landed at Patrick Henry
and rolled to a stop at the Regal Red Carpet
upon which Her Majesty deplaned, fol lowed
by Phillip. The Queen was dressed in a
shimmering aquamarine redingote and dres.
Phillip had on a grey suit and Homberg.
Regally she reviewed the troops,accepted
the 21-gun salute and departed amidst an
honor guard in the President's own personal
I imousine,for Jamestown and Will iamsburg.
The Royal couple remained overnight in
Williamsburg, departing Thursday for
Washington, D. C.
The Royal Canadian Air Force sent aspecial
flight down with her bags. It took an Army
trailer truck to hold all her baggage.
Eastern Airlines had a charter fl ight inhere
with all the press on board. It was sure a
sight to see all the TV cameras working.
They estimated 10,000 spectators on hand
to see the Queen.

Vacations continue here at a very rapid
pace. Most everyone has had their days
of rest with only a few left to take off and
help their wives with the house work. At
this writing. Lead Agent Bill Pickel is off
and spending most of his time by the TV
yelling for the Yankees. John Owen is
spending a few days in his home town,
Pulaski, Virginia, visiting relatives.
Lee Lindsley has just moved into his new
house which he built next to the airport.
He has been working awfully hard since
he started and we know he is glad to be in
his new home. Congratulations!!
Bill Johnson received his new motor, a 35
hp. electric starting Johnson,and has been
spending most of his time on the lake fish
ing and skiing. Bill,along with Milt Ward,
Lee Pickel and Ray Norris claim the fish
ing honors here. Naturally you can tell
they are fishermen by the many tall tales
they tel I .
We just had another good agent bite the
dust. Ray Williams,a new agentwith PAI,
is getting married. We wish Ray and his
beloved all the luck.
Business is real ly booming here and we wish
to welcome ROA to the exclusive 4000
Club. Glad to have you with us, ROA,
and bet you a Coke we beat you to 5000.

Failed to do this before, but better late
than never. Carolyn Pearson, a former
AAL agent, came with PAabouttwo months
ago and -we are certainly proud to have her
with us. The airlines are nothing new to
her as she has been in this business for about
five years and is now doing a very good
job with Ole' Piedmont.

AWARDED SALES COURSE
Bob McAlphin, Piedmont Airl ines agent in
Charlotte, was recently selected to re
ceive the Sales Training Course at Queens
College.
Bob, who has been nominated several times
in the Airline Progress Committee "Agent
of the Month "program was selected by the
Charlotte Sales Executive Club to take
this ten week training course.
Bob McAlphi'n was one of four members
selected out of a possible 235 nominees.
The Sales Club sponsors the program, fur
nishing instructors who are experts in the
field of Sales and Service. Through the
cooperation of Queens College, their
facilities are offered to assist in this pro
gram .

MAINTENANCE CONDUCTS
SERVICE TEST WITH NEW OIL
Two DC-3 Pacemakers have been designated
for a service test using a new Shell Oil
Company type WRA-509 oil.
The purpose of this test is to determine if
increased service life and cleaner engines
can be obtained by using this non - ash,
multigrade dispersantoil which was develop
ed by the Shell Laboratories expressly for
aircraft engines.
The engines which will use the WRA-509
oil,will have their nose cases painted red
during the period of the tests. Oil samples
will be taken after 50 hours of operation
and at 100 hour intervals thereafter. The
main overhaul base in Winston-Salem,
will sample the oil at each number four
inspection and all sampleswill be returned
to the Shell Oil Company for analysis.
WINSTON TO HAVE
JAYCEE BUNDLE DAY
Sunday, November 24th, has been de
signated by the Winston-Salem Junior
Chamber of Commerce as BUNDLE DAY.
Bundle Day is sponsored annually by the
Jaycees as a project to collect old and
discarded clothing, furniture, household
goods,and toys for the Goodwill Industries.
Goodwill Industries provides jobs and in
comes for handicapped persons of the
community,by repairing and reselling this
material.
During the week of November 18th,col
lections will be made by the Key C 1 u bs
through Forsyth County schools for residents
outside the city. On November 24th,the
Jaycees will collect the special Bundle
Day bags from city residents.

Ever wonder where the term "deadhead "
came from? That's what non-revenue
passengers or crew members are called.
This expression, for someone who gains
admittance without paying, is supposed to
have started in Pompeii, where most patrons
couldn't read or write. The free section
of the theatre was marked with skulls and
those who sat there became known as dead
