SAFETY AWARD PRESENTED TO PIEDMONT EMPLOYEES
Piedmont Aviation, Inc. received their
third Safety Award recently for successful ly
completing a six month period during which
time there were no lost manhours due to
disabling injuries received by personnel on
duty.
The award was made by Mr. E. E. Werns-
ing. District Safety Engineer for the Mary
land Casualty Company. Receiving the
award on behalf of all Airline and Fixed
Base Division employees, were A. F . Fer
guson, Superintendent of Base Maintenance
for Piedmont Airlines and C. E. Culler
Manager of the Fixed Base Division.
Nearly 1,000 employees were involved in
this safety campaign with over one million
accident-free hours to their credit. Other
awards have been received by Piedmont in
1954 and 1955.
NO-SHOW CONTROL PLAN
GETS EXCELLENT RESULTS
Enforcement of the three-part no-show con
trol plan by airline personnel is producing
excellent results, according to a recent
national survey by the Air Transport
Association(ATA) in co-operation with the
airl ines.
The survey, conducted the week of Oct
ober 13-19, shows that the percentage of
no-show passengers has been cut in half since
the first step of the control plan was be
gun about a year ago to improve passenger
service.
Previously 14 out of every 100 passengers
no-showed. Now only seven out of 100
no-show, the industry survey indicates.
It reveals that less than one-half of one

1957 OPERATION
A total of 7,328,821 revenue miles were
flown by Piedmont during 1957 as compared
with 6,907,402 miles in 1956 for an in
crease of 421,419.
433, 554 passengers were carried during the
year representing an increase of 29,770
over 1956 or a gain of 7.37%. Available
seat miles increased approximately 6%
and the load factor gained slightly for an
average of 53.71% during the year.
The following quotas were set for the
January 1958operation. Passengers,33, 139^
Average Haul Per Ppssenger, 192 miles;
Load Factor, 48.12% and Passengers Per
Day, 1,069.
GOUGH RECEIVES PROMOTION
C . W. Gough has been nam.ed Sales Manager
for the Fixed Base Division Parts and
Accessories Department,effective January
15. Mr. Gough, who joined the Company
in 1943, has done an outstanding job in
developing the Parts Department and has
served as manager of that Department for
many years. In his new capacity, he will
supervise all functions of the Parts and
Accessories group including sales, purchas
ing and division sales offices.
He will be ably assisted by Mr. Fred Leo
nard, who will be the Chief Stockroom
clerk in the No.2 Stockroom. Mr. Jimmy
Pfaff will hold a like position in the No.
1 Stockroom.
