BLUEFIELD . . . . . . Eddie Jones Agent Adron VVoodruff was Involved in an auto accident on November 1st and is a patient at the Bluefieid Sanitorium v/here he will spend several months recuperating. Woody is Improving and in fine spirits and he would appreciate hearing from his friends. We want to thank Adron Woodruff everyone who helped us get him a TV and he has enjoyed it so much during the many lonely hours. Many thanks too for the get well cards that he has received. CHARLESTON . . . .... Ruth Miller On December 21st Charleston held their annual Christmas Dinner and dance. A Cocktail Party preceded the dinner this year at the home of Ruth Miller, and a merry group met in the Airport Club room for a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Joe High was to have been our Santa, but was unable to attend, so substitute Bill Scott did a good job of "stepping in. " Much to our sorrow John and Helen Comer were unable to attend. John enjoyed the party at BLF the night before,and had the flu the following day. Believe me, they were certainly missed, 'cause they are good party people. Everyone is looking forward to the one next year already - wish you all would attend. CHARLOTTE . . . December in Charlotte was highlighted by our annual Christmas party which was held at the home of Agent Bil ly Sanders . Every one had a good time but missed having Penny Combs there because her boy had developed pneumonia. Bad weather again cramped our boarding style in December but we still had an in crease of 134passengersover last December. We are proud of achieving our goal in 1957 and we will again strive to beat our record in 1958. ////////// //// -V-v V "r PRESENTING CHARLOTTE PERSONNEL J. C. Newell, Assistant Mgr. Johnny started his airl Ine career New Years day 1942 when he was pmployed byEastern Air Lines at Charlotte. In 1945 he was re leased fromEastern to Naval Air Transport Service, U.S.N.R. After his tour of ser vice with Uncle Sam, he returned to CLT with Eastern. Johnny joined Piedmont in October, 1 949 at CLT and was also stat ioned at FAY. He returned to CLT as Chief Agent in April 1951 and was promoted to Assistant Manager June 1956. Mr. Newell has a lot of experience In airl ine work and so far h as accumulated more than 14 years. He knows everyone at the Charlotte terminal and is k nown by everyone, Johnny is a good morale builderand the good interline relations between PAl and the other air lines serving CLT can be credited a great deal to his efforts. Mr. Newell is married to the former Mary Jack Crawford and they are the proud parents of four boys. Jack, Roger, Doug and John Lyndin. Johnny is very active In various organizations. He is Assistant Chairman of the Airline Progress Committee, member of the Airport Lions Club, President of School Parent - Teacher Association,memberof the Charlotte Research Council of Chamber ofCommerce, and Assistant Choir Director of Flint Hill Baptist Church. FAYETTEVILLE . . . . . . C. R. Blackmon, Jr. Happy New Year! One of our New Year’s resolutions was to make the January Issue of the Piedmonltor. Thanks again RDU for coming down and covering for us while we had ourtraditional Christmas Party. Instead of the usual - 2 - turkey-with-trlmmings, we had delicious steaks which were enjoyed by al 1 . We had our party at the local Highway Patrol Lodge, the atmosphere and Christmas spirit were greatly aided by the large open fire place which everyone enjoyed. Wiggs Seems that Agent L. C. Cox was looking for his "Income Tax Deduction" before the end of the year, however, the doctor says that It will be another two or three weeks. Cheer up Lyle, it will get here sometime. Chief Agent C. C. KIger says that he be lieves he holds the system honor for sell ing the first ticket in 1958. It was sold at exactly 12:02 on January 1st and that Is getting the New Year started right. Agent E. F. Scott has transferred to INT-F. Sure miss you Scottie and the best of luck. We are looking for two things to happen with great anticipation. First, the move Into our new terminal building by early summer If not sooner and second,the arrival of our first F-27 Pacemaker. We have resolved to pull a little harder In 1958 in an effort to get out of the usual winter slump during January and February. I think we can do it if everyone puts in a little more effort, don't you? LYNCHBURG , . . . . . Martha Brown We welcome to LYH three new agents. Bobby Smith joined us on December 1 and comes from Sparta, N. C. where It seems Piedmont has the edge on employment, as we have quite a few cousins and friends of Bobby's already employed with us. Guess you just have to come down out of the hills sometime. Bobby's wife has now joined him here and they live out at Timberlake. Bobby Brooks also joined us on December 1. He is a native of LYH and was attending Lynchburg College before coming with PAl, He is married and his wife is a nurse at Lynchburg General Hospital.
