(Executive the ^Ff]ontli William F. Davis William F. "Bill" Davis was born and educated incentral New York State. He attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics at Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1936 and 1937 and was employed by Spartan Aircraft In 1937 where he helped tobuild the first Spartan Executive aircraft. Fol lowing this, he was employed by Beech Aircraft Corporation and then by Curtis Wright where he participated in building the first C-46 Curtis Commando. He was later transferred to Experimental Research at C-W as a foreman. Bill Davis entered the service In 1943 and was assigned to the 498th Armored Field Artillery, 13th Armored Division, as a tank driver. He was later assigned as a Llasion Pilot, flying L4 and L5 aircraft, and was discharged in 1946. Following his tour in the service,Bill attended the Spartan School for a refresher course and then joined Robinson Airlines (now Mohawk) in 1947 as Superintendent of Mainte nance. He later joined Southern Airways as Shop Superintendent. He came to Pied mont Airlines in 1950 as Foreman of Accessory Overhaul and was promoted to Supt. of Base Maintenance and then Assistant to Superintendent of Maintenance. Bill is married and has a ten year old daughter, Marie. He enjoys rigging-up gadgets and doing woodwork in his home workshop. LYNCHBURG . . . (Continued from poge2) Dean Martin (not the singer) came with us on December 23 from Southeast Airlines. Dean has beenstation manager, chief agent, agent and janitor for Southeast at Clarks ville, Tenn. He operated a "four cap", one man station. Dean is from Chatham, Virginia and not married. We extend a big welcome and best wishes to these three and hope they are with Pied- month for a long time. On December 17, at 0800, the Lynchburg Control Tower was finally reactivated after a period of about four years. It is a big relief to know that local traffic is in such capable hands again, 1 am sure crews wel come the Control Tower back in LYH. We are now looking forward to the new terminal sometime during 1958. December was a big month for LYH, with the two colleges letting out for Christmas on separate days, it made things easier for ail concerned. On Dec. 19 Sweet Briar released the girls for their holidays. Book ings were heavy, but of course weather was below minimums and we managed to get only three flights out the entire day. On the 20th Randolph Macon let out for the holidays. Again the weather in the early morning was below minimums, but by 1030 the ceiling began to lift. A call was made to the Dean of Randolph Macon, asking her to announce that all flights for the remainder of the day would be ex pected to operate. Then the fun began - with one extra section and the balance of the flights operating near schedule, we boarded 93 passengers the rest of the day. Now, our only worry is getting them all back on January 5. Somehow, during all the rush and commot ion of Christmas and New Years, we were unable to find time or place to have asta- tion Christmas party. So the next bestthing was to have one after things calmed down and facilities were more abundant. We have plansto hold one on Saturday night, January 4. We are all looking forward to it but guess the results will have to be given in the next issue. Despite some scientific evidence to the contrary we don't believe married men live longer than single men....it just seems longer. "Tell me," the prospective tenant asked the pretty servant girl, "Are you part of the apartment ? " "No, sir, " she repl led . "The apartments are to be let and I'm to be let alone. " Sign along a Florida road: "Keep Florida Green. Bring money." - 3 - "My boy, "a father advised his son, "treat everybody with pol iteness, even those who are rude to you. For remember that you show courtesy to others not because they are gentlemen, but because you are one." One suggestion for traffic safety is to have divided highways marked'His" and "JHers."
