ROANOKE (Cont'd. from PageS ) addition to the Piedmont complement in Roanoke with Bob Huffman, formerly with Dixie Aviation, in charge. He is to be assisted by A. P. Boyar and Al Shaver in the shop with Mrs. Pearl Grimmett doing the secretarial work. We are in the middle of everyone taking holidays here and by the time this hits press, we will have begun vacations. Enjoyed many visitors from INT-E and other outposts this month and wish to wel come all of them back. WILMINGTON Bob Lipscomb We were most happy to have Ken Ross and Will Blackmon visit us last month. We also noticed Howard Cartwright in a corner with Bob Dekay. Those two are always trying to cook up a fishing or hunting trip regardless of the weather. This won’t make you any warmer, but per haps you will be Interested in knowing that 20 of January's31 days had tempera tures below freezing in this Beach Resort. Who is the person who said we Tarheels don't know about winter weather? That unpredictable bird, the stork, has been playing tricks again. While Ed Blan ton, purser, and his wife were visiting in Pittsburgh recently Mrs. Blanton gave birth to a six pound girl . I wonder how that Yankee is going to feel living in a Rebel house ? Bill Davis Diamond Al kal i's DC-3, flown by Roy Black and Tony DeSilva, had a short stack instal lation, 4000 hour inspection, heater modi fication and a new paint job. Hank Symanek, Chief of Maintenance, supervised the operation. Tennessee Eastman's DC-3, flown by Leo Boyd and Ralph Bailey, was in for a Collins AP“ 101 autopilot installation. In addition, the Chat 1 enger aileron gap closure, wing fillet and alcohol system modification was performed. Civil Aeronautics Administration brought in two DC-3‘s for heater modifications, Reynolds Tobacco Co '^pany's E-18S Beech flown by Chief Pilot ^-^rb Drew, had an RCAAVQ-50 Weather Radar Installed. A Bendix RDR-] B Weather Radar is scheduled for installation in their DC-3 shortly. In addition, a 100 hour inspection and other work was performed. Long Manufacturing Company’s Aero Commander,flown by Steve Donegan, was in for an engine change and miscel laneous radio work. Chrysler Corporation’s DC-3 had a 4000 hour inspection, complete heater rework and minor cowling repairs. Corps, of Engineers DC-3, flown by Ed Haffey and Pete Robertson was In for a 100 hour inspection and miscellaneous re pairs . National Gypsum's DC-3, flown by Dick Notebarte and Ralph Palermo, came in for a 4000 hour Inspection and service bulletin compliance. The preacher mumbled a few words In his throat and they were married. A few months later the husband mumbled a few words in his sleep and theywere divorced. Jack came home late one night. TRI - CITIES Don Shanks We certainly cannot say It has been quiet at this station the last few days. As most of you probably know, a Navy SNB with two men aboard has been missing In this area for five days at this writing. The Air Force is directing the operation and -they have eight choppers and a C-123 here for the search and rescue mission. Approximate ly 100 men of the local area are partici pating in the search plus about 50 Civil Air Patrol and Air Force members. Mrs. Bruce Ball, formerly with NAL, be gan work with us recently and her former experience gave her a start off with a bang. We are certainly glad to welcome her to our Department of Confusion, Chief Agent and Mrs. Brad Moody made the deadline as their taxexemptlon arrived on December 31, 1957. We can’t get Brad's head out of the clouds since his little girl arrived. Congratulations, Brad, you are not as old as you think! ! ! Vern Crisp, our super agent from RDU,has taken one week of his vacation. Why ? Well, It seems he heard there were a few more deer In the woods around RDU. This bothers Vern somewhat so off he trots,gun In hand, and chances are he'll return about the same way. Besides, even If he does shoot something I doubt if he’ll have any- th Ing left afterdividing with all the Pied mont folks here in IMN. The IMN pilots had a meeting In January and from al I reports, everything went along per schedule. Bob Lipscomb, station manager, was ad mitted to a local hospital for a minor operation and after aweek’s recuperation he is back - fit as a Pacemaker. We have started receiving equipment for our jet fuel installation. Esso hopes to start construction in March, barring com- pi 1 cat Ions. We will have four 5, 000 gal Ion tanks. Bob Dekay, our chief mechanic. Is on a temporary assignment for a couple of months. He Is in Hagerstown as Piedmont's factory representative at Fairchild. We all hope he enjoys a pleasant stay and maybe speed up the works so we can get some of those F-27's on the line soon. - 5 -
