Ross, Best
To Fill Positions
R. E. Turbiville, Assistant Vice
President—Traffic, has announc
ed the promotion of Kenneth E.
Ross to General Traffic Manager
and the transfer of Edward T.
Best of Lynchburg, Va., to the
)vinston-Salem office as superin
tendent of stations, the- post
formerly held by Ross.
Ross, an 18-year veteran with
the company, is a native of Nash
ville, N. C., graduated from the
Junior Order High School in Tif
fin, Ohio, and attended the Uni
versity of North Carolina and
the Aeronautical University, Chi
cago, Illinois. His first aviation
job was with Trans World Air
lines from 1940 until 1941, dur
ing which time he was based in
Chicago. He then became ■ an
agent for Eastern Air Lines for
three years based in Charlotte,
N. C. He served in the U. S.
Navy.
Former Positions
After World War II he was
station manager with American
Overseas Airlines, where he was
based in New York and later in
Prestwick, Scotland. He joined
Piedmont as station manager at
Raleigh-Durham in 1948 and re
mained there until 1951, at which
time he was transferred to the
Winston-Salem home office as as
sistant superintendent of sta
tions. He was prom,oted to super
intendent of stations in 1957.
Ross is married to the former
Hiawatha Watts of Canton, N. C.
They, with their two daughters,
Karen and Pamela, live at 1147
Strathmore Circle, Winston-Sa
lem, and are members of Mt.
Tabor Methodist Church.
Best, a native of LaGrange,
N. C., has also been with Pied
mont for 18 years. He was reared
in the Methodist Orphanage, Ra
leigh, N. C., and graduated from
Needham Broughton High School
in that city. He attended Em
poria State Teachers College,
Emporia, Kansas, and graduated
from Central Airlines Technical
School, Kansas City, Missouri.
He later completed a Modern
Business Course at Alexander
Hamilton Institute, New York
City.
Experienced Background
Best served both in the U. S.
Marine Corps prior to World
War II and in the Army Air
Corps during the war. With the
Air Corps he was a Second Lieu
tenant and served as bombardier
instructor. He also went through
Basic Flight Training School as
a pilot. He is a retired Major in
the Air Force Reserve.

as a station agent at Cincinnati.
After serving as agent-in-charge
at Piedmont’s Pinehurst-South-
ern Pines facility, he was pro
moted to station manager at
Charlotte, N. C., where he re
mained from 1949 to 1956, when
he became division station super
visor based in Lynchburg.
At Lynchburg, Best is a mem
ber and past president of the
Traffic and Transportation Club,
a member of the Chamber of
Commerce Aviation Committee, a
former member of the Fort Hill
Lions Club, and has been active
in PTA work.
He is married to the former
Elizabeth Anne Wolfe of Lock-
haven, Pennsylvania, and they
have a son and two daughters.
Mrs. Best is a registered nurse.
The Best family belongs to the
Fort Hill Methodist Church in
Lynchburg, where Best has serv
ed as a member of the Board of

William C. Dolan, former sales I
representative for Wilmington
has been promoted to city sales
manager for Bristol, Tennessee-
Virginia, and Kingsport and
Johnson City, Tennessee, and the
surrounding area.
Dolan began his career with
Piedmont in 1952 as a flight at
tendant based in Wilmington,
North Carolina. In September,
1962 he was promoted to sales
representative for Wilmington,
in which capacity he has served
until this time.
A native of Milwaukee, Wis
consin, Dolan attended schools
there. Following graduation he
served eight years in the United
States Marine Corps before and
during the Korean conflict.
Dolan is married to the former
Norma Louise Smithson of Wil
mington. With their two sons,
the Dolans will be living in the
Tri-Cities area after June 1.
While in Wilmington Mr.
Dolan has been active in the
Sales Executive Club and Inter
national Trade Association. He
also worked with the United
Fund Campaign and the Wil
mington Azalea Festival. Active
in church work the Dolans are
members of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Wilmington.
Dolan’s Tri-Cities territory
also includes such cities and
towns as Knoxville, Greeneville,
Morristown, Oak Ridge, Eliza-
bethton, Maryville and Alcoa.
Sheets Goes To ILM
Fred H. Sheets has been ap
pointed sales representative for
the Wilmington area, replacing
Bill Dolan.
A native of Huntington, West
Virginia, Sheets was employed
by Piedmont in 1962 as an opera
tions agent.
Sheets is a graduate of Chesa
peake High School in Chesa
peake, Ohio. Prior to joining
Piedmont he was credit manager
for an Ohio loan firm.
Sheets is married to the form
er Barbara Jean Bartee of Hunt
ington, West Virginia. The
Sheets have one son, Jeffrey,
who is three years old.
James P. Lockamy has been
named sales representative for
Washington, D. C. He is work
ing with the company’s District

Section Is Organized
A realignment of functions in
the finance department has been
announced by vice president
M. F. Fare.
Sam K. Carter, formerly bud
get director, was named manager
of a newly created systems and
procedures staff. The overall pur
pose of this new gi’oup is to de
velop a total management infor
mation system for the entire
company, utilizing a third gene
ration computer, such as the IBM
360 system.
Mr. Fare estimates it will re
quire two years to complete the
system work.
Others named to the systems
and procedures staff are Richard
P. Kelley from engineering. Jack
G. Walker, from general account
ing and James E. Alford, a new
employee formjerly with the
Honeywell Corporation.
After the initial change-over
from IBM data processing to the
Univac system the systems staff
will be increased by one or two
members.

The systems and procedures
personnel are enrolled in the
Univac computer training course
along with Palmer Alexander
and Joe E. Mitchell from data
processing.
JIM BROWNE
James N. Browne, III has been
promoted to budget director, suc
ceeding Mr. Carter. Mr. Browne,
supervisor of cast accounting,
will continue to supervise this
function.
