You and Your Image
Some of you are studying the new planes Piedmont will
soon be flying over Piedmontland; others of you daily face
increasing numbers of passengers that we haven’t room for,
right now, and you must kindly and sympathetically turn them
away. Kindly, so that they’ll come back, for the day that we
will have seats for them is not so far away as many of us
might think. The importance of reservation and station agents
being sympathetic is crucial. It’s likely that these would-be
passengers will call when you’re swamped with work, taut if
you are pleasant they’ll remember and they’ll call back.
* * *
Whether you are a mechanic or an officer of this com
pany, YOU are Piedmont Airlines. If you, and in turn your
company, want to grow, to increase the area of Piedmontland
and the reputation of your service you have an every day, all-
time job on your hands. It is a big responsibility that never
lets up. There is no time allotted for inattention to your job,
no matter what it is.
♦ * =1^
If you’re a flight attendant, there will be mornings when
you don’t feel like smiling. If your interest in working goes
no further than cold dollars and cents, it is to your advantage
to smile anyway. You may be cleaning an airplane and think
your back won’t bend one more time; but you do it anyway
and that last spot of dirt on a Pacemaker’s side is whisked
away. Perhaps you are a secretary who’s about to scream be
cause the phones never cease ringing. But you answer it with
a smiling voice.
* *
There may have been a time when allowances were made
for you when you had an off day. But that era is over. Pied
mont Airlines is building a fresh, new image. Our image
foundations are being laid. Excuses made today and tomorrow
create a crumbling base for that which you are building. You
could be its weakness, but you must be its strength. Tradi
tionally your company has relied on you; your interest in your
job has made your company what it is. The same concern will
make Piedmont Airlines whatever YOU want it to be.
GBS Loves PAI
Wilhe Snow (Mrs. Mark) Ethridge has recently written
a book called “You Can’t Hardly Get There From Here”. B. P.
(Before Piedmont) this was the situation in Goldsboro, N. C.
You just plain couldn’t get there from here.
It took about two hours to get to Raleigh-Durham Airport.
Small wonder our town was not air-minded. Many people felt
that if they had to drive that far to get to an airport and two
hours back after a long trip — forget the trip or drive the
whole way.
Since Piedmont has been servicing Goldsboro our whole
area has responded with gratefulness. Seymour Johnson Air
Force Base finds this airline a great boon for the incoming
and outgoing service men and their families.
The businessmen of our town recognize the tremendous
advantage of having our own air service. We feel Piedmont
is directly responsible for much of the new industry we have
gotten and with ever increasing progress of the airline, our
own progress will develop accordingly.
On the distaff side, the “half-scared, half-fearful to fly
group”, take courage in the astounding safety of Piedmont.
We also like the personal attention paid us by the employees.
It is a pleasure to fly Piedmont.
We are proud to have Piedmont and feel that as air traffic
increases, as it is steadily doing. Piedmont will be proud to be
in Goldsboro.
To paraphrase from Willie Snow’s book title, “There ain’t
hardly anyplace you can’t get to from here, thanks to Pied
mont.” ■—Georgia T. Tanner

GOLDSBORO . . .
(Continued from Page One)
June 13th. The Goldsboro folks
who had checked out from the
trailer the day before loved com
ing home to their new terminal
building.
Passengers who spend more
than twenty minutes in the
terminal cannot help but hear
the piercing noise of the military
jets as they come and go almost
constantly.
Piedmont at GSB lives closely
with the activities of Seymour
Johnson. Station Manager R. P.
Haley estimates that at least 50
per cent of GSB’s boardings are
military. The men and their fam
ilies are often headed for any or
all of the four corners of the
world. The agents do a lot of in
ternational ticketing.
Piedmont is happy that it can
provide commercial air service
to Goldsboro residents. The city
folks seem happy with their ser
vice too. For local comment see
the guest editorial on page two.

ner, wife of Goldsboro’s news
paper editor.

You remember back in April I said we should hit 140,000 in
June. Well, how wrong I was! — it now looks like it will be 155,000.
Somebody out there is doing some work and it’s my guess that
somebody is just about everyone. Now that we’re having such good
business, it is the opportune time to give these customers the most
courteous service we know how. When we get the jets we will have^
seats galore and we will need all these passengers, plus we’v«j
always had a good reputation for outstanding service, so let’s keep
it.
Everyone seems to be having record days these days. BAL had
one on the 15th, one hundred ten passengers which is pretty good
with four departures. System daily records are being broken quite
frequently this month. June 10th was a new record with 5,838 pas
sengers boarded. Somebody gave us odds that we will have a 6,000
day before the month ends.
Ed Best is now at INT to assume his new duties as Superin
tendent of Stations. Ann, his wife, and the rest of the family will
arrive about July 1st. They have a cat that has never traveled by
car so I understand Ann is taking the cat for a ride each day so it
will be able to make the trip to INT. What we mortals will do for
our pets!

DID YOU KNOW that Grandfather Mountain, which we fly
over between HKY and TRI, is considered by geologists to be the
oldest mountain in the world?
