'Six Days A Week.. /
And Shave Yourself
The following nine rules were the policy of an engineering
office in Morgantown, W. Va. in the 1850’s. They were pub
lished recently in a recent edition of News Fronts magazine.
It is interesting to note that in those days a man had to work
long and hard for his keep and the only thing he had going for
him was himself.
NEW COMPANY KULES
1. Office employees will daily sweep the floors, dust the furni
ture, shelves and showcases.
2. Each draftsman will bring in a buclcet of water and a
scuttle, of coal for the day’s business.
3. Draftsmen will each day fill lamps, clean chimneys, trim
wicks. Wash the windows once a week.
4. Make your pens carefully. You may whittle nibs to your
individual taste.
5. This office will open at 7 A.M. and close at 8 P.M. daily,
except on the Sabbath, on which day it will remain closed.
6. Man employees will be given an evening off each week for
courting purposes, or two evenings a week if they go reg
ularly to church.
7. Every employee should lay aside from each pay a goodly
sum of his earnings for his benefits during his declining
years, so that he will not become a burden upon the charity
of his betters.
8. Any employee who smokes Spanish cigars, uses likuor in
any form, gets shaved at a barber shop, or frequents pool
or public halls, will give me good reason to suspect his
worth, intentions, integrity and honesty.
9. The employee who has performed his labors faithfully and
without fault for a period of five years in my service, who
has been, thrifty and attentive to his religious duties, and
is looked upon by his fellow men as a substantial and law
abiding citizen, will be given an increase of five cents per
day in his pay, providing a just return of profits from the
business permits it.

Turby
We had quite a group from the Traffic and Sales Departments
here in the home office to a Picnic and Hayride at Turby-Villa in
the mountains recently. It was so foggy we had to put smudge
pots out at the driveway so people could find the turn-off, and even
then, some passed without seeing it. After everyone arrived, the
fog lifted and we had a fairly nice day. Talk about good food — the
wives sure knew how to cook. Fried chicken, ham, deviled eggs,
cakes and what have you. Jo Ann McAlphin brought some of the
best brownies I have ever eaten. I had a fine time and I think
everyone else did too. We had twenty-five on the hay wagon pulled
by a tractor, and coming up the mountain, A1 Shulley had to get
off in order for us to make the climb — had no trouble after that!!

The Japanese had their new YS-11 here recently for a demon
stration for Piedmont. Sure looked good. It looks very much like
the Convair 540 and carries sixty passengers.

One way for a girl to get a mink coat is to find a wolf and skin

Son—Say, Dad, did you go to Sunday School when you were a
little boy?
Dad—^Yes, son, regularly.
Son—Well, I’ll bet it won’t do me any good either.
