PAGE TWO THE PIEDMONITOR MARCH/APRIL, 1971 piEomonim Piedmont Aviation, Inc. Smith Reynolds Airport Winston-Salem, N. C. Betsy Allen, Editor UDiro/?j Editorial Who Are Our Customers? Surely, by now, we all know that our cus tomers pay our salaries, but do we really know who our customers are? Probably not, but just in case you’re interested in this sort of thing the following figures make a pretty good story. Piedmont’s passenger revenues in 1970 were $62,696,858. Suppose your part of that was $400 take home pay per month. This break down shows who paid you what. Interline customers contributed $150.52. An interline customer is a passenger whose trip originated on another airline. The commercial customer, we might call him a business trav eller, pays $131.36 of your $400 monthly salary. The vacation or pleasure traveller contributes another $63.80. The travel agency customers, or those passengers who book their Piedmont reservations through a travel agent, kick in another $29.52 of your pay check. The military customer makes up the remaining $24.80 of your monthly pay. All this is not to say that one customer is more valuable to us than another. Rather, they are all valuable to us and we need more of each of them. This in no way means be nicer to one customer, say an interline passenger because he pays you $150.52 than to another, for instance the military passenger who con tributes $24.80 to your month’s paycheck. While we’re supposing salaries and averag ing costs, just go a little further and suppose for every passenger you failed to give the best possible service your paycheck would be cut by the part of your salary he pays. That prospect doesn’t make for a very pretty picture. Of course a business can’t be run like that, but wouldn’t our service to our passengers be great if we could. You know, it should be great anyway. Maybe we’re getting there. See the story on page one about passenger complaints to the CAB. Piedmont was tops last month. Keep it up. Congrats 25 YEARS William J. It is always a pleasure to put together and print this monthly list of those who have marked another milestone in their long-term commitment to, and service with, Piedmont. We hope that publication of the names shows just a fraction of our esteem for these loyal and capable men and women who have done so much to make Piedmont what it is today. Actually the listing is a testimonial to the growth and durability of Piedmont, and it is at least somewhat gratifying to look at it in that light during these hard and trying times. This loyalty between Company and em ployees we see every month through our Con grats column. Through our computer we re cently came up with some fascinating numbers representative of the loyality and long-term commitment in our Company. As of late March this year Piedmont had a total of 3,205 employees. Nearly half have been with Piedmont five or more years, 46.02% to be exact. The percentage of Piedmont per sonnel with 10 or more years service was 26.40% and there were 16.38% with 15 or more year service. This is more than just a bunch of num bers. It adds up to good people, who in turn make a good Company. The backbone for weathering hard times is loyalty. The mutual commitment which abounds at Piedmont is a great foundation for our continued growth. HOW GOES IT?
