Cruises are highlight of summer interlining
Summer seems to be peak season for many
places interliners like to go. The bargains are
still around, you just need to do a little more
planning if you’re going to travel this time of
year.
Convenience and cost-wise one of the most
appealing places we’ve found lately is the
Estate Carlton on St. Croix in the U. S. Virgin
Islands. You can fly directly to St. Croix on
Pan Am, Eastern or American or from San
Juan on Prinair. For $15 per day per person
double or $18 single the features are special for
Piedmont employees and their families. It is a
reasonable price for luxuries like a large, air
conditioned cottage room with private terrace,
breakfast and dinner, free golf and hand carts,
lovely pools, private beach, tennis and all th€
sun you can soak up. For reservations call or
write the Estate Carlton, Plaza Hotel, 59th
Street and 5th Avenue, New York, N. Y. 10019,
212 838-7770.
Rhine cruises are reasonable
A deluxe cruise on the Rhine River in Ger
many is holiday for either rest and relaxation
or sight seeing and excitement.
The offer is made jointly by KLM Royal
Dutch Airlines and the Holland River Line
which uses a pair of sister ships, the Holland
Pearl and the Holland Emerald, both built in
1971 especially for the Rhine cruises.
The trips can be eight days long, at $315 per
person, five days at $265, or three days at $240,
depending on whether you elect to take the
whole trip or just a portion of it. The cost in
cludes roundtrip positive space economy class
air travel to Amsterdam and Zurich from U. S.
gateways, plus a first class, “outside” cabin and
full board on ship.
The optional sightseeing trips on land are
extra as well as shipboard trips and transfers
from the airport to the ship.
Departure dates for the eight-day trips are
July 23 at Strasbourg and Aug. 6 at Rotterdam.
The five-day trips all leave from Rotterdam
and the dates are Aug. 9 and Sept. 9 and 30.
The three-day cruises embark at Strasbourg on
Aug. 6 and Oct. 4 and 15.
The eight-day junket offers all that beautiful
Rhine River scenery while the ship cruises
past Rotterdam, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Drach-
enfels and Koblenz (where the Rhine and
Moselle meet), Oberwesel and Schonburg Cas
tle, Mainz, Mannheim, Worms, Heidelberg, the
Black Forest, Strasbourg and many other
smaller, but equaly picturesque, villages and
country towns.
