June/July, 1976 pi£^£jfrramra£p page three Interesting interlining — cruises offer change of pace Before you skip this introductory paragraph to check on the latest offerings for interliners, we’d like you to stop and think about some thing. Our travel benefits are among the most precious privileges we have as Piedmont em ployees. Reduced rate travel is a privilege and it can be lost. And probably the easiest way to lose it is to either abuse the privilege or fail to abide by the requirements set by those who offer us interline discounts. Piedmont recently received a letter from Eastern report ing that several of Piedmont’s employees traveling on Eastern were not properly dressed. Nearly all carriers do have dress codes for pass and reduced rate travelers. And there is really no excuse for not knowing and abiding by the requirements. If it doesn’t embarrass you per sonally to be improperly attired, it does embarrass your Company. Please check the requirements. Eastern’s dress code for pas and reduced rate travelers is as follows; For men, a jacket and tie are required for all Eas tern travel, except for intra-Caribbean routes where a leisure suit, or an open-collared shirt with sport jacket is acceptable. For women, suit or pantsuit. For children under 16, accept able attire is clothing suitable for travel, a fine restaurant, church, etc. Eastern’s personnel will enforce these rules. Sail for half price An interline rate of 50 per cent off the mini mum fare on transatlantic crossings of Cunard’s luxury liner Queen Elizabeth 2 has been announced for Piedmont employees, their families and parents by ITR Interline, Ltd. The interline rate is $475 for first-class ac commodations, $375 in tourist class, with a reduction for the Oct. 14 and 31 sailings to $425 first-class and $325 tourist. All rates are per person, double occupancy. Children two to 12 years of age, with two adult passengers, pay 50 per cent of the adult rate. Port taxes and handling charges of $39 for adults and $29 for children are additional. The QE2 sails from New York for Cherbourg and Southampton on a twice-monthly or three-times-a-month basis through October. The 65,000-ton ship has more than an acre of open deck space, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, sauna and massage, yoga lessons, movies, nightclubs, dancing and other activities. In first class, all staterooms provided a view of the sea and have bath and shower. There’s one sitting at two restaurants overlooking the Atlantic, with complimentary champagne the first night at sea. Tourist-class staterooms, more than half with sea views, are fully carpeted and have private bathrooms. The Britainia dining room looks out on the water and serves sumptuous seven-course meals each day. Reservations and additional information can be obtained from ITR Interline, Ltd., 39 W. 55th St., New York, N. Y. 10019, telephone (212) 586-3847. Cunard also has weekly Caribbean cruises available at interline rates. A $239 interline rate on one week cruises on Cunard’s Countess. Celebrate earlier With private pilots and aii-line personnel in mind, The First Flight Society will hold the annual Wright Brothers celebration on Sunday, Sept. 19, this year. The North Carolina Aero Club will co-sponsor the event at Kitty Hawk. Up to 200 members are expected to Hy in for the occasion. The change in date this year from the Dec. 17 anniversary, represents a Bicenten nial project. The Bicentennial contribution will be to encourage all who are interested to visit the Wright Brothers Museum, see the exact model of the Kitty Hawk Flyer in which Orville Wright made man’s first successful powered flight in a heavier than air machine, and browse among the exhibits. A 65-foot granite monument was erected atop Kill Devil Hill in 1928. Permanent markers show the landing points of the 1903 flights. Replicas of the hangar and living quarters used by the famous brothers have been constructed, and a visitors center houses planes and exhibits. A 3000-foot paved runway and ramp make the area accessible to airmen from everywhei’e. The entire site is designated as the Wright Brothers National Memorial and is maintained by the National Park Service. More than a mil lion people tour the facility annually. The First Flight Society is dedicated to the origin, history, and future of flight. It is the only aviation organization directly connected with the first flight, and it welcomes members, wherever they may be, who express an interest in the purpose of the Society and a willingness to contribute to the accomplishment of its objectives. The September 19th program will include a short ceremony and aerial demonstration at the visitors center at 11:00 a.m. At 1:00 p.m. the annual luncheon meeting will be held at the Ramada Inn at nearby Nags Head. A promi nent aviation speaker will address the meet ing, and this year’s honoree will be inducted into The First Flight Shrine.
