Familiar faces in new places
Don’t count on seeing the same faces in the
same places out on Piedmont’s system these
days. Faces, places and titles are changing.

Among the recent changes are Larry Brooks,
from station manager at O’Hare to assistant
director-inflight services in Winston-Salem.
Allen Perry has moved to Winston as staff
assistant to the vice president-passenger ser
vices. He had been station manager at Raleigh-
Durham. Parkersburg’s Jim Birthisel has be
come manager-customer services at Charleston,
West Virginia. H. L. Giles is moving from Knox
ville to become station manager at Lewisburg.
On May 1, S. K. Douglass from Columbus
becomes station manager at Nashville. V. T.
Dotson will assume the responsibilities of man
ager-customer services at Nashville. Jeannie
Dial has moved from station manager at Lewis
burg to station manager at O’Hare. Milt Ward
became station manager at Raleigh-Durham,
moving from the same position at Charlottes
ville. Dan Berry has left the station manager’s
post at New Bern to become station manager at
Charlottesville. Johnny Lawrence has moved
from Bluefield to Shenandoah as station man
ager.
Phyllis Highsmith has been named manager-
reservations sales at the Central Reservations
Office in Winston-Salem. She had been manager-
customer services at O’Hare.
Eddie Jones at LaGuardia has been promoted
from area manager to division manager. His
stations now include LaGuardia, Boston, New
ark Pittsburgh, Chicago, Washington-National,
Baltimore, Dulles and Shenandoah.
Since the Company’s need for coordination
with governmental agencies became less import
ant with the passage of the Airline Deregula
tion Act of 1978, our office of governmental
affairs in Washington has been closed. 0. E.
“Bud” Halsey, who managed that facility since
its establishment in 1977, has been reassigned
to Winston-Salem headquarters as manager-
cargo sales. He reports to Vice President-Mar-
keting W. G. McGee. Halsey is coordinating
cargo sales efforts with the cargo department to
assure continued growth in this area of the
Company’s operation.
Sales personnel changes include Mary Kost
being promoted to city sales manager in Nash
ville. She had been sales representative in
Chicago. Joe Grant has been promoted to dis
trict sales manager in Miami from city sales
manager in Wilmington. Jim Sheats has moved
from Nashville city sales manager to district
sales manager for Dallas/Ft. Worth. Fred
Sheets has moved from city sales manager in
Cincinnati to be city sales manager for Tampa/
St. Petersburg.
The maintenance department has announced
the appointment of J. L. Konkle to the newly-
created position of maintenance coordinator in
Winston-Salem.
The fifth annual Piedmont basketball tournament was
held in Roanoke the latter part of March. The INT-CRO
team won the single-elimination event which had 12
teams participating. The winners were, first row from
left, Tony Wright, Pierce Swing and Doug Shell. On the
back row are Mike Bowen, Jimmy Mitchell, John Michael
and Gene Cox.
Clearing house elects Bates
The Airlines Clearing House, Inc., which now
settles about $600 million monthly in billings
among its 155 members and associate mem
bers, has named new officers. Piedmont’s Forest
G. Bates is vice president. R. B. Klinke of United
is president and ATA’s C. H. McCall was re
elected secretary-treasurer.
