If you’re wondering how you’ll spend the remaining snow-filled winter months, con sider the excitement and thrill of gliding down a majestic mountain covered with sparkling snow. Skiing is fast becoming the most popular winter sport. Ski resorts are plentiful in both Europe and North America. We’re fortunate to have several to select from in the Denver area, one of Piedmont’s newest destinations. Here are a few ski packages to choose from: Snowbird, located just 45 minutes from the Salt Lake International Airport, has four luxur ious lodges to choose from with nightly rates from $40 per person, double or single. Each lodge has a heated swimming pool, saunas, ski lockers and laundry facilities. There’s also tennis, ice skating, disco dancing or shopping in the village shops. The resort has 32 ski runs, packed or powdered snow with five double chair lifts and a spectacular tram to take you to Hid den Peak. Two mini-ski weeks are available January 7-10 and 14-17 at Bogus Basin (Boise), Idaho. Purgatory ski area and Tamarron Resort in Durango, Colorado have scheduled January 20-25 as interline week. During this week, Pui’- gatory is extending a 50 percent discount on daily and multi-day lift tickets and ski rentals to all Piedmont employees and their immediate families. Purgatory is offering a 50 percent discount on daily lift tickets to all Pied mont employees. Skiing outside the U.S. For those of you who prefer the European slopes, Alpine ski vacations are available for seven nights from $437, which includes Luft hansa round trip to Munich, bus transfer to/ from the resort, room accommodations, conti nental breakfast and dinner daily, lift pass and group escort, all taxes and service charges. An Austrian ski package is available from $98, but does not include air transportation. Safaris are year-round East African safaris are available for as little as $400, which includes all meals and, where applicable, accommodations at the Inter Continental Hotel or similar in Nairobi. A six- day Northern and Southwestern Kenya safari features the Samburu Game Reserve, Meru Na tional Park (home of “Born Free’s” Elsa), a night at the Ark and the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Departures are weekly on Sundays and Tuesdays. A seven-day Southeastern and North ern Kenya safari, with departures on Tuesdays and Saturdays, includes visits to Amboseli, the foothills of Mt. Tomodachi fare returns Once again, Japan Air Lines is oft’ering the Tomodachi service charge fare of $107 to Tokyo for all Piedmont employees, their spous6s and dependent children under 21. Departures from New York, January 10 through March 31, are positive space, economy class Monday through Thursday and space available on Friday, Satur day and Sunday. This year’s program include optional extensions from Tokyo to Bangkok for $58, and Tokyo to Singapore for $65. JAL Hotel System in New York City can assist in hotel reservations; (800) 221-4862. To obtain the Tomodachi fare, send letter of employment verification with $107 service charge plus $3 departure tax to the nearest JAL ticket office at least two weeks prior to departure date. Sheraton extends discount Because of the tremendous response, the 50 percent discount offered by Sheraton Resort Inn during the months of September, October and November has been extended through Jan uary. The rate is $20, single, double, triple or quad, plus four percent state tax. The hotel is located in Clermont, Florida, near Orlando, just five minutes west of Walt Disney World on Highway 192. Take TAP to Portugal TAP, the airline of Portugal, announces its new Navigator fare to Lisbon for $109. De partures from New York/Boston are positive space and reservations may be made within fifteen days of departure. For an additional $10, and only in connection with the Navigator fare, interliners may go to Madrid, Faro, Funchal or Oporto. Stopovers are allowed in any direction. The $10 rate is round trip, space available. Also in connection with the TAP program, the fol lowing hotels will grant a 50 percent discount during off season (through March 31): Lisboa Penta Hotel; Hotel Roma; Balaia Hotel; Estoril Sol Hotel and Hotel Madeira Palacio. All Pied mont employees, their spouses, dependent chil dren under 21, parents, retirees and their spouses are eligible for an unlimited number of trips on TAP’s Navigator fare.
