Looking good at DTW
The timing was right.
With the auto industry on the
rebound and the economy begin
ning to pick up. Piedmont began
service to Detroit, the fifth largest
metropolitan area in the country.
/Vnd the market has responded
enthusiastically.
“Boardings on our two daily non
stop flights to Charlotte have done
exceptionally well,” said Don
TUrner, DTW station manager.
“In March, the first full month of
operation, we boarded over 5,000
passengers, and we feel DTWs
going to be a good market for
Piedmont.”
Many people picture Detroit as
cold and impersonal because of its
size and the fact that it is very
industrial. But TUmer has been
pleasandy surprised.
"Detroit is large and is veiy
industrial, but we’ve found the area
a very good place to live. People are
friendly and helpful and the State
of Michigan is beautiful,” he said.
“We have a good terminal here
and American, which handles our
operations, has been very good to
work with," he added.
Piedmont began service to
Detroit February 15. Nine
employees — six fulltime and three
part-time — work at the new
station.

let Piedmont be your connection to
an exciting holiday in Chattanooga.
Chattanooga was settled about
1815 by Chief John Ross, a de
scendant of the native Cherokee
Indians, at aJerry crossing known
as Ross' Landing. In 1838, the
name was changed to Chattanoo
ga, the Cherokee wordjor “rock
coming to a point,” because of Look
out Mountain. Around the turn of
the century, an enterprising group
was thefirst to bottle afountain
drink called Coca-Cola. In the
1930's, the Chattanooga valley be
came a power andflood control
centerfor seven states under the
Tennessee Valley Authority.
