George Hendrix, director-line
maintenance, outside stations, INT
spent several weeks at a hospital in
Houston this winter. During his
stay, doctors were forced to ampu
tate one of his legs.
"The cards and letters employees
sent to me meant so very much."
Hendrix, a 37-year veteran with
Piedmont, said.
"I think I received a note from
employees at every station on the
system, and I would just like to
thank these friends for thinking of
me while I was hospitalized.”
Hendrix recently returned to
work. You can reach him at A235 or
extension 389.

"It was a tremendous Christian
experience," Jack Miner, a 727 cap
tain based in Winston-Salem, said.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do
for years.”
Miner, along with five other men
from Winston Salem, recently
spent two weeks on the lie A Bache
in Haiti building a church for the
island’s 2,000 inhabitants. The
project, sanctioned by the Metho
dist Church, is being financed by
money left in a will. In addition to
the church, funds have been alio
cated for education and health care
for residents of the four-square-
mile island.
"It is a very different culture,”
Miner said. “There is no plumbing
or electricity on the island, and the
average income is only $70 a year.”
In construction before joining
Piedmont in 1957, Miner worked
with the other men to lay the block,
build the trusses, and put on the
roof of the 24 by 60 foot structure.
Local residents are now completing
work on the building which will be
dedicated in early summer.
“I plan to go back for the dedica
tion," Miner said. “After that, 1 want
to be part of another similar proj
ect, this time in the Haitian town
of Cayes.”
The annual meeting of the
shareholders of Piedmont
Aviation, Inc., will be held in
Winston-Salem at the T.H.
Davis Ttaining Center on
Wednesday, May 2, at 10 a.m.
