6 Piedmont Labonte finishes 7th; winnings top $600,000 Terry Labonte and the Piedmont Racing Team didn’t repeat as Winston Cup Grand National Champions this year, but they accomphshed some important goals that put them in excellent shape for the 1986 season: • They set a new team record for race earnings: $601,850— almost $200,000 more than in 1984 and the fourth high est total among this year’s teams. • They repeated as winners of the Budweiser 400 in River side, Calif., ensuring that the team is part of the 1986 Win ners Circle program that pays labonte PieoiTim appearance money for enter ing Winston Cup races, and earning them a position in The Winston challenge race. • They won three poles, equal ing the number of pole posi tions they held last year, and qualified again for the pres tigious Busch Clash in Daytona Beach that kicks off the new racing season each year. (Labonte won the 1985 Busch Clash with a dramatic surge to the front on the first lap.) Labonte entered all 28 Grand National Races and was one of just eight drivers to have more than 15 top-ten finishes. He ended the season seventh in the Winston Cup points race and second in the Unocal 76 Winners Point Fund standings. The team and its familiar Piedmont-blue No. 44 Monte Carlo almost finished the season with another win at Riverside in November. Labonte broke the track record for the pole position at the Winston Western 500, led most of the race and finished just two car lengths behind winner Ricky Rudd. It was an excellent ending to a season that was better than all but six of the top 50 Grand Nationail drivers. And with the Busch Clash and a new season just two months away, Labonte emd the team are poised for another fine year. Be sure to read it carefully because several changes have been made in both the form and the way you report your income. The 1985 W-2 forms will be presealed prior to being printed to keep your personal information more confidential and to reduce costs to your company. In addition, several items that formerly were issued on separate W-2 forms will be combined onto one form. Because of this change, be sure to follow the instructions below to correctly report wages on your income tax return. All four items have been totaled in our report to the Internal Revenue Service. Not all blocks apply to all employees, so if one or more of the four blocks on your form is empty, just ignore that empty block. You will not receive a separate W-2 form this year for flight crew expenses. However, if Piedmont has paid any moving expenses on your behalf or if you receive long term or temporary disability benefits, you will receive a separate form covering these expenses.
