'Waiting' a finalist For Clio Award A Piedmont television commer cial has been chosen as a finalist in the 1985 Clio competition, advertising’s equivalent of the Oscar awards. Held in New York, the annual competition selects the best of print and broadcast adver tising from around the world. In 1985, the Clio awards committee received a total of 19,500 entries from 40 countries. The Piedmont commercial, entitled “Waiting" and first broadcast in 1984, addresses a problem common among air trav elers—waiting in big, busy air ports. As a business executive is humorously depicted cooling his heels all day (and most of the night) in an airport terminal, an announcer explains how Pied mont’s schedule, route system, and hubs help keep air travelers flying instead of waiting. “Waiting” was created by Pied mont’s advertising agency, McKinney Silver & Rockett, and was directed by Dick Loew, whose credits include commercials for IBM, Dunkin Donuts, and 7-Up.
